why is there no perfect bag?

Backalley, maybe there is a resolution to your pain. The perfect bag is the one that you have carefully designed to your needs. Cooperate with a skilled craftsperson, who is willing to turn your idea of a perfect bag into reality. I figure the process could be fun and interesting also.

Are haters allowed in this thread? :D.

I have 5 camera bags and none of them are perfect. I switch them off depending on the kit that I am carrying. I think that all the bags are all fine - I am the imperfect creation that can't seem to find true happiness:rolleyes:.

My feelings exactly...

The problem with bags is that there is no metric to abstract quality into a numeric figure for comparisons.

So, I have developed one based on spatial frequency (thread count), divided by tangential segmentation (number of compartments) X sagittal orientation (measurement of sagginess).

My bag is a 4.87 and it's understandable that you're astounded by that number.

Exactly what I looked for: A well developed scientific answer! Please put my Tenba Messenger Photo+Laptop large through your formula and let me know the value out of it!

In old Soviet Union, tyranny of choice is become deal with: the one camera bag available, the perfect one. ;)

And it will come with poor partition spacing, it'll leak and some where in it they'll have lubricated something with tractor grease!

I have had several "perfect" camera bags. Each of those was only perfect for a couple of weeks or months until my gear changed. ;)

But then, my CCS Heritage and my Vanguard bag come pretty close to what is "perfect".

Domke F2 is the perfect bag. Jim Domke got it right first time. You just have to put the right (and right amount of) stuff in it. Every piece of gear I have has been in my F2 at some point or another.

Of course, I have four other Domke bags, so what do I know?

I just bought two new bags. Neither are perfect. :p

But I will post pics and descriptions later, cuz they are still useful. :D

If there was ONE perfect bag then all your wardrobe would have to match just that one bag and that would be boring. Bag companies are just looking out for you :)
