Wow... Tough crowd (M9)

I took a peek.
All I can say is the sample images are above the average from that website.

On the other hand, if you can't even show above average pictures from a *digital* M body, then something else is not right :)

Sure, buy a huge heavy tub of SLR lard instead of a small, light rangefinder camera. If that suits you, great. If not... well, buy an M9.

Cheers,

R.

Leave it to Roger to trot out this tired canard.

I'm holding a D3x with 50mm in one hand and an M8 with 35 VC in the other. The weight difference is minimal...unless youre a prepubescent girl or you have some bizarre muscle wasting disease.

Isn't this just what we were talking about? Don't just disagree with a person, insult them while you're at it. This tone has no place on RFF, please.

I've shot weddings with d700/grip and 24-70 lens...and very small wedding with M6/R-D1 (zm 25, 50lux, 35/2)...i personally find the size/weight a sig difference. The lenses on my nikon kit are just humongo, and my neck always is a bit kinked/sore the next day. The balance is quite different too. Whether an m9 is worth the price to you is again...up to the user. People use what they like, move on.

I guess im a prepubescent girl (i hope i dont get creepy PMs now:p)

Tub of lard versus camera....gotta love these internet forums. I suppose large format cameras must be truckloads of lard. These are just different tools, for different photo uses and experiences. Period.

Hey guys,

I worked with my co-workers Amadou and Barney to put that article together in between camera reviews. It was a lot of fun, especially for me and Barney being long time rangefinder users/owners.

I do wish I could own an M9 beyond just a temporary sample unit, but alas, I could never afford it.

:)

Thank you for the comments.

Just curiousity: Any reason for this "collective" review just a couple of days before the M-Day?

Thanks for the article Scott, I for one enjoyed it.

Dear Jeff,

Well, I quite upset Canon when their big Eos film cameras came out, by saying at the photokina press show that I preferred smaller. lighter cameras so I'd stick with medium format...

Sure, different tools for different applications, Personally, I prefer the smallest, lightest, easiest-to-use camera that will give me the results I want.

Cheers,

R.

Bingo - if my clients (and myself) like the results; who cares WHAT camera system one uses. I personally would prefer something light but that gets the results. I don't HAVE to carry my D700 kit and lenses to get the results I can get with my Leica kit unless I'm looking towards macro photos - then I'd carry the Fuji X-Pro1 as well :)

Cheers,
Dave

Pulease! .......

Aren't you sick of having to find these superlatives? :p

Don't be too hard on all those " the M9 gives inferior IQ to my Canikon D whatever" posters over there. They are simply telling the truth. They need a camera that does their thinking for them to get an acceptable image.
