How do you like the Pentax Q?

Had a chance to actually hold one and it feels really good in hand.

Saw some interesting shots coming out of it as well, some of the built in filtering actually looks useable and produces good results.

Prices have come down to where I'd consider one now.

Mike (Greyscale), wow that Samsung ECX1 has a face only its mother could love! That thing looks like the b@st@rd offspring of an aardvark and Mickey Mouse, or some such! Also: in general I'm not a fan of cameras with rectangular portals at the front of their lenses, although I "get it" that there's no reason not to have that (since the film frame is rectangular anyway) and in fact it can serve as a bit of a lens hood. Still, rectangular pie-holes are fugly. :) Don't get me wrong, I'm not picking on you; just one of those "what were the designers thinking back then?!" moments, like when gazing upon an Edsel or a Corvair. Anyway, your collection of P&S units is amazing! You've really covered the whole range of designs, from Maitani excellence to ... Samsung.

The ECX-1 was designed by Porsche, and its ergonomics are really very good, except for a somewhat awkward placement of the viewfinder, and besides being a sure-fire conversation starter, it is an excellent picture-taker. I actually own two of them, and if I ever run across one of the more rare silver versions I will probably buy a third. Samsung was trying to make a big splash in the point & shoot film camera when it was introduced, and, for good or for bad, I suppose that they succeded. While the ECX-1 is quite large for a point & shoot camera, it is positively dwarfed by the gigantic Canon Sure Shot Zoom XL, which is absolutely huge. I like the Samsung cameras for their quirkiness, while they may not have been works of genius like the cameras that Maitani engineered, I give them kudos for trying something different, at least, when everyone else was making cameras that looked like bars of soap with lenses.

Hey Nightfly, I'll respond to your inquiry to kdemas since I bought his Pentax Q just over a month ago. Short answer is I don't know why he sold it (actually, I do - he was funding his Fuji xpro1 purchase). Bottom line is I am loving shooting with the Q. Yeah, I know all about how tiny it's sensor is. But I'm very happy with the results I'm getting with it and it's so tiny it's easy to have with me all the time. And unlike most P&S/compact digital cameras, with the Q you have lots of control options to shoot however you want - in that sense, it's basically a miniature dSLR. And despite its small size it feels really good in the hand (and my hands are very large yet the Q is easy to hold and shoot with). At its current price, I highly recommend it.
