Do you guys think we might finally see a competitor to the current Noctilux .95 by Cosina Voigtlander soon.

This would be great as no name brands such as SLR Magic are already making lenses that are as good as the new Noctilux.

I personally would love to see a modern noctilux version coming to the M mount soon at around $1600

How about a 50mm f1.1 Nokton for $999? Try www.cameraquest.com

Or, am I completely missing something here?

You beat me to it Bob. The 1.1 is an excellent value and a nice performer.

Also...SLR Magic "as good as the Noct", not sure about that one.

It must have cost Cosina no small amount to build the 1.1 so the chances of any other significant 50's from them is pretty unlikely for some time IMO.

They have released two 0.95 lenses for micro four thirds and that was no small achievement! Those lenses are all but impossible to get at the moment.

What does the OP mean by the future of Cosina? Aren't we just talking about one lens?

yep,
putting an incorrect title to the thread is made only more interesting by placing it in the incorrect forum.

correcting both now.

the 1.1 is a classic line nokton. It's comparable to older noctiluxes. I was talking about a more modern approach to the noctilux .95 from 2008.

Also check out some early photographs from the slr magic .95, it's huge but it has the higest dof i have ever seen , even more than the new noctilux.

1.1 must not be good enough. ;)

There are always people for whom whatever is available is inevitably not good enough, no matter how good it actually is.

If Leica were to make make a modern Noctilux for $1600 all of a sudden, these people would nevertheless not buy it; instead they would call it not good enough and request a f/0.8 version for $1200.

EDIT I (not "we") haven`t seen a competitor to the old Noctilux 50/1.0 so far. ;)
