Lighting for prom?

Hey all,

I'm shooting prom photos today. I've got my style and lighting down mostly, but was curious if you guys had some tips that may come in handy.

I'm shooting both indoors and out. going to use an umbrella outside as a shoot through fill light too.

gear: 20-35 2.8, sb800, 50mm, nikon body.

Sounds like you know what you're doing.

Don't be afraid to take that second exposure to make sure that you've got it. This is a once in a lifetime event (unless people are taking a victory lap next year!).

Other than that, perhaps remember to bring tungsten colour correcting gels for the possibility of really range light indoors.

oh, and I left my tungsten gels at home. for the indoor, I'm debating between using the flash for most of the light, or toning down the flash power and throwing some ambient in. guess I'll see later.

I do all sorts of work, but yes, that's me. I'm pretty infamous for documenting seedy electronic music events.

I would personally throw some ambient into the mix as you'd mentioned, but only if the colour balance isn't brutal. Be prepared for any variety of situation and you'll be fine.
