A good move, no longer dependent on Panasonic sensors. May up the anti for Panasonic to deliver new sensors that can deliver even better than the G3/GX1, and the G3/GX1 can deliver.. but the E-M5 wins hands down.

B.F.D. as far as I'm concerned. All that I care about is that it works. The M9's sensor was made by Kodak, not Leica, but that doesn't make it any less of a Leica..

Wow, I posted the link on a popular 4/3rd site and it was deleted with a nice PM from the Mod not to spread rumors. I didn't realize how many Sony haters were out there until I started using their cameras.
Everyone that uses their sensors are in denial. I guess if the sensor had been made by Canon all would have been fine. Touchy people get a life. It's just a camera.

eh. i don't care for Sony on the camera front either, but really that opinion is based soly on experiences with their horrible (at least in the past) point and shoots. i have never used any of their cameras with a larger sensor....
....that said, i do agree that it's good for Olympus to not be overly dependent on Panasonic for their sensors.

Olympus makes superb cameras.
Sony makes superb sensors, which, when tweaked by Olympus yielded superior results than Panasonic sensors.
I say good for us, the customers.

Personally, I always thought the panasonic sensors were the achilles heel of 4/3 and m4/3 - it's obvious theres been a significant jump in quality with the e-m5 over previous m4/3 cameras.
At the moment Sony has the best sensors out there.

Uh, Paul ... no one said the OM-5 was "less" of an Olympus due to the outsourcing of sensors. Olympus has ALWAYS had sensors made by others, AFAIK. I remember when I was in a Rochester camera store to look at the E-300 with Olympus reps on site. At one point someone walked in and an Olympus rep introduced him to another customer as "the man made who made the sensor in your E-1."

O.K. It's obviously made by Sony. Its technical characteristics are pure Sony (see e.g. the NEX-7). Nikon obviously has purchased exclusivity for a few months on the thing. So what?
