ask to my Bessa I: she will tell yuo 24x36 mm is ultr-small format... But please, don't speak to her about those heavy big guys with their 4x5" frames: she become a little nervous! ;-)

out of joke, every frame format has its good and bad, the best is always the smallest one with enough quality for your purposes

Sony has had the strongest tech of any of the sensor manufacturers for at least a decade. Why boycott?

The Sony corporations have done some very unethical things in the past few years. Sony-BMG put root-kits on music CDs that took over a user's PC and could not be detected or removed by normal means. Sony removed the ability to use other operating systems on Play Stations, forcing the users to do an "upgrade" that removed the ability to use Linux - and that was a major feature of the machines when they were sold. Then, there's the whole fiasco of user account information getting leaked from Play Station Network due to poor security at their end, and how they handled that.

If Sony makes excellent sensors, which apparently they do, then the loss is mine. But boycotts are not always painless. I'll give them a couple more years, and if they have stopped the activities that harm their customers, I'll end my boycott.

But this is childish. SONY is a humongous corporation and is practically like the USA, consisting of many different states (branches within SONY) to form one country (to form one HUGE corporation that is SONY). What happens in one branch/are of the corporation cannot be judged over the entire corp as a whole, just like if one state says "gay marriage is BANNED", doesn't mean the whole country is anti-homosexuality right?. Bad analogies maybe, but see what I mean? It's not like a mom-n-pop dime store.

Uh, Paul ... no one said the OM-5 was "less" of an Olympus due to the outsourcing of sensors. Olympus has ALWAYS had sensors made by others, AFAIK. . . ..

I think this is less a case of outsourcing than collaboration. SONY is rumored to have invested $623 million in Olympus and have become its single biggest shareholder. It now holds 10% of Olympus's common stock. Little wonder then that Olympus now has access to SONY tech. Goodbye Panasonic.

Who doesn't?

Sony is by far the dominant sensor manufacturer right now and for the foreseeable future.

Except for Sony Industrial, Sony overall is in terrible financial shape.
