Best camera to compliment M9

Curious for suggestions on a camera to compliment an M system. There are times when I want something smaller and frankly less expensive with me. I have my iPhone, but it really is pretty lame for any real photography.

I've thought about the Lumix Ts4 for skiing, surfing, etc. but am also drawn to the Fuji x10. I of course have drunk the Leica coolaid and love the Leica experience. The x2 I just don't think is worth the money. X100 maybe isn't small enough to compliment an M.

Anyway, I would be interested what others have or have thought about.
 
i would suggest a Leica X1 or X2.....a really nice, gently used X1 can be had for around $1k....

I am going to keep my Leica D-Lux 3, which has been a great camera for me. Manual mode is great. It is super tiny and has huge battery life. I think it makes for a nice companion to my M8. The D-Lux 5 is also a good option for you, if you're into the PanaLeicas.

Complementing my M9, I have both the Ricoh GXR and the Leica X2.

The GXR is actually three cameras as I have it .. Two fixed lens AF compacts and a TTL electronic interchangeable lens camera. All three are excellent performers. The GXR-A12 28mm setup is the most compact, the A12 50mm Macro nets a super versatile performer.

The X2 slots in between those two for FoV and is perhaps the nicest camera to use of the bunch save the M9 itself. It really is worth the money, it's definitely a "real" Leica in its simplicity, lens quality, and overall design genius.

The GXR-M shares lenses with the M9 and is a more versatile camera in a smaller format. Smaller than the M9 but not by much, it offers a rather different experience in use. it is a very high quality performer.

Were I to travel with the M9 and a companion smaller camera, the X2 makes th most sense as the FoV is perhaps my favorite and the controls, feel and image qualities are the most similar. Its the easiest to carry standalone because of the collapsing lens and size.

When I go with the GXR I tend to carry just it and three lenses, live and work in the APS-C format's dynamics.
 
Fuji X100. Many M users hardly switch from a 35 anyway. I carry an M to work often, but when I don't it's just the X100. It comes with me everyday anyway...
 
Either an XPan or a Widelux for street shooting.

If you want the most versatile camera, I'd say an OM-D, because you also get extended tele and macro capabilities.

I use an XP-1 and an Olympus EP-2 to back up the M9. The XP-1 has nice high ISO performance and the EP-2 is nothing to carry around with the 20/1.7. Both cameras take Leica lenses with using adapters. The three cameras also give a selection of crops allowing to mix and match focal lengths to particular situations.
 
I use a GXR-M to complement my 2 film Zeiss Ikon, soon to be replaced by a digital M. It has the best IQ imho and has none of the corner problems that other bodies like the Nex suffer from.
