Has anyone had any experience shooting Arista EDU Ultra B/W 100?
With the possibility of EFKE going belly-up I am now looking for a replacement for 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 sheet film.
There is of course the limited yearly run of Ilford FP4 but it is far more expensive albeit very good film.
So, if anyone can give me their experiences with the Arista sheet film - exposing, processing and image quality I would be very grateful.
Regards
Peter

I've only tried it in 35mm, and Fomapan 100 my favorite 100 film. Lush grays and creamy whites, a bit contrasty at 100 though, so you may choose something else for strong sunlight if you don't mind pulling it.

Real Men Shoot Film.
A few yrs ago, I got a few rolls of the Foma 100 and some Foma 400 (the same stuff as Arista EDU Ultra 100 and 400). I liked the 100's tonality a lot, but the 400 showed a lot of halation (bright halos around light objects against dark backgrounds, caused by light going through the film and bouncing back from the camera's pressure plate). The 400 I used was the 35mm version, and the 100 was the 120 size. I should get some more of the 100, I did like it.

I've always liked the look of Foma films; on the other hand I've always found that, with them, quality control is something that happens to other people.
Nice film, shame about the assembly.

I am a 4x5 newbie and use Arista.EDU 100 as practice film. Tonality is really nice. I recommend it for the price. Sometimes I see spots in the emulsion so I would not us it for important shoots. I like it processed in Rodinal stand development.

Excuse me... but what warrants an important shoot ? Or for that matter important shoots ?

Lets say I am shooting a portait of a neighbor and this neighbor is available to sit for me again if I mess up for whatever reason then I would not consider the shoot to be "important" because I can do it again. But if I am shooting my neighbor on his wedding day I would consider that shoot to be important because he is not going to get married again for the sake of a reshoot.
Also I have had opportunities to photography for other people for money so I would consider that to be in the important catagory.

OK... I now fully understand.
Thank you for the clarification.

Thank you.
As all my work is 'important' in that I only get one chance to shoot I must take into account the quality issues.
Looks like I will have to wait for the last run from EFKE and stock up. After that it looks like the more expensive Ilford FP4.
Apart from Mid West Photo where else can I obtain Ilford 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 film from?
Cheers

Have you tried Acros 100 ?
Very clean in 35mm, slick in 120 and I would not even think how clean it must be in large format.
Works very well with Rodinal 1:50 and you never have to compensate with exposures up to 2 minutes.
It used to be cheaper than other brands as well, but that may have changed.
