Hi guys,

just an idea that i think it's time for the next leica rangefinder to have a dramatic change in design.

Yes i like how the M's look but I think it's been a long over due for a new design. I personally like how barnack model's look next to an M but nevertheless yes Ms are timeless but i think we are 50 years late in a different design..

I personally like the m5 a lot just for the courage of changing it up a bit..

Just out of curiousity, what would you change?

I find M's perfect and wouldn't want any non-functional changes.

It would be nice to have a digital M with a winding KNOB, just like a RD-1 but even more backward.
Just kidding, but a digital CLE would be perfect.
More compact and full frame, M compatible. As long as the casing of the camera is in metal, I don't really care if it will last a life time, especially if it's a digital camera...

I like the M5 a lot. But I think I would wait for complete regression of the human nose and / or some radical evolution of the human eye and brain before changing much in the M rangefinder camera formula.

Titanium body option.
Stronger strap lugs.
Ability to switch view magnification, internally.
Perhaps a bottle opener on the base, opposite the auf knob.
Bluetooth for the digital.

Lots of potential upgrades....

Leica almost went under last time they tried to change the design. I don't think they'll want to try that again.

Too bad really, in many ways I think they were going in the right direction with the M5 (heresy).

In this fast changing world I want the Leica M to stay exactly as it is!

That stubborness to alter the design defines Leica IMO ... change the M and they're just another camera company!

You want a weapon right? À la David VS Goliath.

Ok. At least titanium strap lugs.

I do like the leica heft, but there is a lot to be said for a titanium body as far as weight reduction : strength. And it looks good.

so you think the design of a barnack model is not a true leica?

i don't know , but i always thought originally leitz always thought they would keep changing their design in every 30-40 years after they came out with m3 optimistically

Why would they do that? Ad why did you think that? This is akin to the argument that bicycles need a radical redesign, because two wheels is so passé.

If you don't know why they might do it, consider the possibility that they can't think of any good reason to change it either.

Otherwise you are just advocating chance for the sake of change.

Cheers,

R.

Wouldn't mind having a shutter speed dial to rest my finger on, for fast turning. Similar to the *shrugs* dSLR cameras I guess..

Starting a thread because... because... you don't know why! I've seen it all here now. And the next line doesn't read all that easy too, btw :D

Regarding the design change: They did! They implemented aperture priority after 40 years! :)

It's got a shutter speed dial you can turn with your finger, as fast or as slow as you like. I'm a bit puzzled here.
