No more numbers to identify in the M. Interesting turn of events. I was told about 2 years ago, NO, no video will ever be in a M camera, never. Never say never.

M

M-E to take the place of the M9.

Looking at the single "M" on the front....it looks weird.
Reminds me of Chris Weeks' pre-production M9.

I wish this "M" without number means you can upgrade the electronics in future, maybe in 3/4 years.

that would be the only way for leica to keep their cameras appealing

The Leica M also marks the beginning of a new era in the Leica product naming policy. In future, Leica M and S model names will omit the number suffix to emphasize the enduring and long-term significance of the respective systems.

This tells me there will be many models at higher prices at shorter intervals. Doesn't make me look forward to the next model.

I wonder. Seems Leica is taking a very different road? Maybe not. Even in the film days they offered more accessories than just about anyone else in the camera industry. Look at all the "collectable" stuff out there.

So offering a camera or series of cameras that will make small changes and offer different features may be no different but I don't like the way this is going. I just hope they continue to offer support and do not let the cameras go the way of the M8, making it a very expensive disposable.

As technology improves, so will the same Leica digital body (inside). Just more money for more technology. Not the same as when the M6ttl or the M7 came out. We were buying workmanship then. That all seems to have disappeared.

Good point. We are buying electronics and no longer fine mechanical workmanship. My IIIC still works and the shutter speeds are correct and it was last serviced in 1973? Well, I don't use it any longer but it still works.

So the costs go up and up. I wonder where the breaking point will be? Canon just came out with a nice small 6D full frame with Video, gps, wifi, and an assorted number of other things and , a built in viso flex! :^)

I noticed that weather sealing is mentioned. I have had my M9 in the rain and bad conditions and never had a problem. I asked DAG about what was thought about the sealing. He said it all looked pretty tight on the M9.
