Interesting. The pancake doesn't appeal to me because I already have the 18/2 which is almost a pancake in size and weighs only 116 g. Can't really see why I'd want a slower lens with a narrower field of view as a carry-around.

The new pancake's angle of view is the same as the Canonet QL 17's and the well-loved LUMIX 20/1.7. I enjoyed using both of these lenses. I was slightly disappointed the X100 was not a 27 mm lens.
If I could only have one walk around lens, this might be the one I choose.

As a 35mm and 50mm user exclusively, 40mm always appeals since it is in between.

The 56mm looks quite appealing.

My early rf days were w/ fixed lens cameras like this before I picked up a CL w/ the 40... My first m43 setup was GF w/20f1.7, so the 27 pancake is going to be the one I am eyeing as well.
One of my favorite two lens combos is 21/40

Ooh, that pancake looks really nice. I was originally going to try to find a 28mm f/2.8 Canon LTM to take care of the 40mm range + smallish form factor, but I think I may just wait now.
At f/2.8 for a prime, I'm assuming it's not going to be as costly as the other lens and that Fuji will eventually offer it as a bundled kit prime alternative with the X-E1 (like how Panasonic/Olympus offers their cameras with an optional 14/17mm pancake instead of the zoom).
I'm kinda surprised how big the 23 f/1.4 is. I thought it would be about the same size (or a little bigger) as the existing 35. The 23mm is actually a lens I wouldn't have minded brought down at f/2 if the engineers could've gotten it smaller. The ISO on the XP1 is so good, that I'll give up that extra stop for a smaller lens design. A 23mm f/2 about the size of the 18mm f/2 would've been amazing, Fuji would've had themselves a Summicron 35 clone.
I also hope that the new primes also has the DOF scale like the 14mm f/2.8 in the final version.

Can't wait to see the 56. This lens lineup needs a stronger portrait lens option.

Right now I'm using an MC-Rokkor 58/1.4 with adapter. Quite nice image quality.

This is why fixed lens/large sensor cameras are more relevant than ever - what you physically see of the 23mm f2 lens on the x100 is only a third to half the actual physical unit itself, which extends far into the body, and is tuned specifically to the sensor/microlenses of the x100 - which is why it's such a good performer:

If they brought out a similar lens for the x-pro1 it would be probably 3 times the length of the x100 unit, and it still probably wouldn't perform as well...
Personally though, the 23mm f1.4 is one of the big reasons I'm considering the x-pro1 to replace FF dslrs - the increased speed on that lens is a big advantage for me on an aps-c format camera. I think it'll be smaller than it looks when mounted on the camera.

+1 here, I was expecting something similar to what comes out of the body on the 23/2, maybe a bit bigger, but from the pics it feels to be as big as the 35/1.4... bummer for compactness, then again the X100 remains a more portable camera on the series.
but amazing to see how much the 23/2 goes into the x100!

The size of the 23mm f/1.4 is as expected. A bit bigger than the 35mm f/1.4. Consider the FOV and the aperture, and look to similar lenses on other platforms, i.e. 35mm f/1.4 v 50mm f/1.4 on full-frame DSLRs. There is a size difference because the wider lens requires a more complex design.
To be honest, I'm thrilled it's an 1.4. DoF control and extreme low light performance is a huge plus for me personally.

I agree. The 35mm equiv is too large for me. However, if you look at the x100 design you'll notice that a large portion of the lens is housed in the body, so it isn't as small as it seems. I'm going to check out the SLR magic 23mm 1.7 when it comes out. It's cheaper than fuji lenses, but no doubt won't be as good (if the 35mm 1.4 fuji lens is anything to base it on).

I'm using the 50mm Zeiss planar right now. I loved the lens on the M8, and I'm hoping the 3x focus peeking will make it easier to use.
