I'm new to the forums so hope this is in the right place.

I have Leica M9-P with 50mm and 90mm summicron lenses. For some reason the exif data on my shots never gets to f2 even though I shoot wide open with both these lenses.

Any ideas? Is this a camera issue, perhaps an adjustment is in order?

Thanks for any advice.

Nothing to be concerned about.
The aperture shown in the EXIF data is estimated, using the little light sensor of the front of the camera. It's only an approximation.

Thanks for that...maybe I need to make sure I keep that light sensor window clear then, sometimes it does pick up some fingerprint smudges.

That won't make much of a difference, compared to the differences in sensor angle and the impact high subject contrast may have on a simple external vs. complex TTL light meter.

There is no electrical connection between the lens and the body, so the camera is guessing what aperture you are using. It is a guideline for the EXIF file, that's all. It gets even more complicated if you use a filter, like and ND, because the camera doesn't know you have put a filter on the lens. It is best to forget about it and make note if it is important.

The camera has no idea what aperture you have your lens set to. The aperture data in the exif is an estimation. Most of the time it's wrong. It's nothing to fret about. There's nothing wrong with your camera and f2.0 is working as it should. It's just the way the digital M's work. There's nothing you can do about it.
