The main annoying characeristic of a Bessa camera is the shutter sound level. It alerts everyone in the neighborhood (so to speak) that I have taken a photo. I am today using a Canon 19mm on a Bessa L. The built-in meter is very useful.
Agreed. The metal shutter is too loud. I just bought a Zorki 4k for $30 and the shutter is much nicer haha!

I finally caved & splashed out for the Zeiss hood. Very expensive for a little bit of metal, however nicely made it is...

The new Voigtlander Ultron 21mm f1.8 Aspherical. It is on my Bessa R4M which starts looking a bit worn - which is no wonder as it is always along. The lens is brand new - got it in Japan a couple of weeks ago and it will be on the market in the next couple of month. Really a good lens, not small - but it is a f1.8 21mm wide-angle!!!!! And at about 1/5th of it's only competition, the Summilux 21f1.4. The Ultron has less vignetting, less flare and I cant see any significant difference in sharpness either, but I will do some more testing with stuff like Technical pan later this month.
For samples check Flickr site "Voigtlander Ultron 21mm f1.8 Aspherical". I will be loading more as the days go by - including color (Ektar 100).

I'm sorry to report the Bessa R will not fire flashbulbs due to the 200 ohm resistance in the flash circuit.
It restricts the amperage required to fire the No.3 bulbs.
Personally I thought this would be a hilarious night street kit with Efke KB-25 using a GN of 220.
So Tom, how do you rate and soup your Tech Pan ?
I've got a boat load of it but no solid info on exposure and process for continuous tone negs.
My thoughts are ISO 32, HC110-H, 6min @ 68ºf.

George, I tend to do my Techpan in Rodinal, 1:200, stand development for 120 minutes (just long enough to watch a movie on the TV). usually, I do a gentle tap and shake at 60 minutes to get rid of some edge flare from my Paterson reels. If I am doing more precise stuff, I mix Delagi D8. Speed is around 20-25 iso - and forget shooting on a bright, sunny day as highlights gets fried.

Just got this one
Number 486
Love the AE. No need to worry about the shutter speed and just go with the composition.
Now, looking for old damaged tripod base to be used to attach strap so I can carry it vertically.

Well its time to improve my participation here, I let you the only bessa that I have the opportunity to use for a couple of months. I love this camera, its simple, light and just beautiful. Didn´t buy one because I was looking for a stronger body, and for that I had go to Zeiss Ikon (that is kind of the same thing, but a little better). Maybe some day I could buy one for a second body.

Are these worth buying new? Considering an R4a or a used M3 and getting a voightlander lens, probably the 35 1.4.

R4a are hard to find used, but if everything checked out then Used is fine. R3A and M3's are very different so choose wisely. Are these worth buying new? Considering an R4a or a used M3 and getting a voightlander lens, probably the 35 1.4.
