This is not a "pick for me my travel equipment" thread. I am sure what I want to take with me on a 14 day trip to Europe with the family.

If it was you, what would you take along from the options given.

I would travel light with only the Bessa R with the 50/1.5 (J-3) & CV35/2.5. I would shoot lots of Arista Premium B&W film. BTW Raid have a wonderful trip with your family.:)

As for the options you listed M9 & M3.
 
M9 & M6

travel light, so Nikon and Contax are out
I love 35mm focus, so M3 is out for me
and since you want to shoot a lot, medium format is also out

and would take along also one slr, but a small one, and looking at the list you don't have that - instead of the spotmatic i would take one of my little M-pentaxes , MX, ME or my ME super :D

with this choice you don't have to take along the lightmeters
 
our trip went the other way, to LA, Las Vegas, Death Valley, Highway 1 and San Francisco but, like you, we wanted good coverage and minimum kit. the SWC was perfect for the big landscapes (Grand Canyon, Death Valley, California coast) and the m9 with 50mm noctilux was perfect for the rest. i say perfect despite the single field of view because there was no time wasted thinking about which lens to mount. the second advantage - the digital images were available for review and sharing immediately (family etc) while the pictures on film were developed back home in Germany. no regrets here. try it - you may like it!

Experiencing a film camera beside a digital one is good when traveling, at least has been for me! Adding some different view can be challenging, making things more interesting. Therefore I voted for SWC+m9 from your list.

Voted for M9 + M6, my standard set-up. And I would take something wider than a 35.
M9 for the iso, m6 being the workhorse.
Have fun!
 
Go with the M6 and the Spotmatic. Take a short zoom/telephoto for the Spotmatic in case you run into a shot where you need the reach and you can't use your feet to get into place.

I could take the MX and tne ME Super Program with a couple of sharp Pentax lenses.

I will contact you if I get close to Hamburg on day. I gave a talk at the Bundeswehr Univrtsity in my last visit to Hamburg.

I am thinking of using the SWC for photos of crowds in plazas.

Hi Robert,
This is curently my choice. I want to capture Italy different from how I have done it the last three visits. The SWC would be different.

My Spotmatic F has been CLA'd and is reliable. I could use the awesome 85/1.8 lens.
