The world was actually in color during WWII

This is awesome. Its always nice to see some old pictures and get amazed at the picture quality of the old shots. Thanks for sharing.

True, Shorpy is a great source. They have many of the same LC images that are in the HuffPost slide show referenced by the OP and Shorpy's are generally better corrected. Several in the HuffPost slide show are noticably off color. Check out: http://www.junipergallery.com/large_format_kodachromes

BTW, the first color photograph (3 separate color separation slides projected together) was demonstrated in 1851, before the US Civil War and commercially successful color processes pre-date WWI by decades.
