Anyone in the UK have any idea where I can find a used 39mm Leica/ pattern lens cap?
I was carrying my 3 year old daughter (who was wriggling about) the same side as the camera was shouldered, when it 'pinged' off my 50 'cron, in a field somewhere. I didn't notice until we'd reached the car. I had a brief retrace of my steps but no joy.
I shall go back and hope it hasn't been washed away by the past 2 months rain - you never know.
£22 for a new one - I think not.
Thanks,
Steve.

I looked on ebay but didn't see anything - not UK based.
(Somebody will now kindly post a link proving otherwise)

I just performed a quick search on the UK ebay site using "39mm lens cap" and several UK based sources selling the generic caps for about 1.90 Pounds show up. I suggest that you try one of those.
As you know, any trivial piece of plastic with "Leica" written on it becomes at least 10X more valuable. For that reason, I usually take the Leica caps, as well as the leather lens case, and keep them in the original lens box. I use generic caps (and often generic hoods too) for this very reason: if they are lost or damaged, it will not result in too much hardship.

For 36mm (old fashioned Elmar), I use milk bottle tops...and they are a bit loose so might stretch to 39mm
You'll have one in the fridge!

I've just ordered a couple off eBay for £1.89 each.

Contact the folks at apertureuk.com. They might have what you need.
I know that for £10, they even have black chromed Leica=embossed metal caps--they're "replicas," but they're actually better than authentic late-version Leica caps are, and look kind of sporty on the black lenses, assuming your Summicron is that shade.
