v1 and asph are the best.
the very best 35mm lens is the summilux pre-asph!![]()
I have V1 and pre-asph Summilux.
Both are superb lenses (to me).

I would like to asking about 35mm Cron V.3 hood..
i have a UV leitz filter (39mm) , and i bought a "fake" leica hood (39mm)
i attach my hood on my cron, but i could not attach my filter anymore..
its like i need to choose , either use filter or hood..
*i have tried to attach filter first then hood on top of that, but it does not work..

Well, having actually used both German-made and Canadian-made verisons of the v4 Summicron, I would not pay anymore for the German one. I think sample-to-sample variation is a bigger factor for me than country of origin.
My current lens (my third) is Canadian made and I don't know what is up with it, but almost every time I get film back after shooting it, the sharpness and general character just take my breath away.
Another note, when buying second-hand lenses, I try to look for ones that really look "used", figuring that that's a good sign. Kinda like with a musical instrument - if it's old but looks unused then perhaps it doesn't sound too good. My 35mm v4 looks beat-up but performs well.

There is no difference in quality between lenses from Canada and Germany.
But sometimes there is a difference for collectors.

I just got a V4 for a super price (compared to german market price) so I went for it.
Actually used V4s go for not so much less than used ASPHs so I'd never consider the V4 (I voted ASPH here) .. but now I got this for a lot less. And the first scans look great. Love that lens already!

IV 35 cron canada have polycarbonate/fiber frame (lighter and potentially having more problems than the metal one which Leica reverted back to, moving production to Wetzlar). This drives the difference in price for the later numbers (3.4xxx are definitely all metal as there are some hybrid ones after 3.39x when the production switched to wetzlar but midland upgraded their standard). I do not believe there is any difference in performance and any practical risk of the synthethic material frame breaking . Still less people would like to pay USD 1k+ for a cron with plastic parts....

Ron, first of all: congrats. It's pure awesomeness!
I have the asph and I love it! It's always on my m9.
I've been thinking about buying another 35mm cron for my m6, either v1, v3 or v4.
Are they equal when it comes to focusing?
I mean, I know that when my asph's focusing tab is at 90 degrees, its focused at 1.2m. I'm used to it. Is this true for the others 35mm cron as well?
Thanks and congrats again. Nice set.

hi, perhaps the v4 is the most small beautiful lens ever, but shifts too much and flares even more! So i fund it pretty annoying...
Instead the v3 is more estable and i prefer it.
The asph should get rid of focus shift and more expensive but better.

I really like my V2. A breath of fresh air for street photography, makes my camera pocketable. I was kinda getting frustrated with the size of the asph lenses and the whole need for a bag thing.
And the look of the V2 (and V3 since they are supposedly the same) is absolutely great. The "leica glow" is all there.
agree Ned, V2 was my favourite cron too because it's pancake smallish.

Always been curious - how does the v3 focus throw differ from the v4? I saw someone mention it’s far far longer, about 180 degrees, 3 to 9 o clock, from 0.7 to inf . Is that true?
I like the throw on the asph and v4 and know my distances by feel. Curious about whether I’d get thrown off on a v3.
