Accidentally shot Portra 160 at 400...

My boy started school today.I've shot a roll of him this morning, and needless to say the images are really important to me. I was obviously in a fluster and left the camera set for 400 rather than 160. Do I need to get the film push processed by a specialist lab, or will it come out ok from the local lab (who don't offer push processing) at 160?

Have the lab push it 1.5 stops, should be okay. If you don't push it, be prepared for some dark photos.

The difference between 160 and 400 is just over a stop - so (provided the rest of your exposure was well-judged), they won't be EGREGIOUSLY underexposed if processed at 160. However, given the unrepeatable nature of the images, I'd probably pay the extra to get the push processing done.

Please don't laugh!

I have shot two rolls of ISO 160 film last week. The camera was set to ISO 400, should I trash the two rolls? Is sending them to the lab a waste of money?

I seriously did laugh a little there, sorry. Negative film has a great latitude. You will get perfectly useable results as is, or you can even leave a note telling the lab to push them to 400, and they will overdevelop them a little. Don't throw them out!

Thought to help.

Put a note into the envelope to develop at 400 ASA.

That way they'll keep it in the soup a wee bit longer.

Ooops, somebody already suggested that!

I assume that's Portra/C41 ?

C41 has great latitude for over-exposing, not so good when you under-expose (as in your case). So do tell the lab to push to 400, it will be worth it.
