incredibly cheap. I like the size and number of rolls: 6 35mm or 4 120. That is seriously the most that I would carry for a day. 1 case for 35mm and 1 case for 120.

However I'm unsure how well they would survive a messenger bag. Can you just throw them around and do they stay hatched?

I'm sure they are great but costly, atleast for me in the US.

Any opinions on the porters? I'd like to get two: one for 35mm and one for 120. At the moment I just grab some rolls and throw them in my bag and that works OK but a case would be nice.

I've looked into porters before due to the price but I've read that once you take out a roll, everything rolls around. Now, if you pack it fully and only switch with finished roll (1for1) then it should be fine.

Possibly.

I haven't purchased any film cases because I partially agree with you. I just feel that it will keep things intact and such. This is kind of why I wouldn't pay for the Japan hunter one. I also feel that I oftentimes spend dumb money on useless accessories to realize that my things don't really need cases/accessories/pouches/etc.

I wonder if there is something in the camping, outdoors, or hunting and fishing world that is suitable off the shelf and cheaper ? Ammo case maybe ?

I have been using some of the original FujiFilm film boxes for a few years and they really do make organising stuff easier in a small bag. Easy to get out, open, close and replace. The only drawback is if it's raining heavily, or extremely dusty, as your whole film stock is open for a short time.

A more fragile alternative could be the little orange boxes that Agfa mounted slides used to come back in, or a similar thing from other companies of course. Make a criss-cross shape from stiff card, fix it in place with a hot-glue gun and you can fit six rolls in there. I started off doing that originally but the purpose made containers are much more solid and protective, so I eventually got a few of those instead.

I bought a few to keep exposed rolls in before taking to the lab. They are OK when fully loaded, but as pointed out, less than 6 rolls rattle a lot. Also, quality control on the snap part of the case can be bad. On one of mine the snap barely holds. It costs too much to return for another one which could also be faulty.
In short, not worth it.

Why not using zip-lock bags ? Take the least space and weight and films are protected against water and dust.

Kodak made a funky leather "filmpod".
There are alot of stuff out there...
