I sort of understand the "show me pics taken with a certain lens" posts, but not so much this "pics taken with a certain body." Kind of what btgc was alluding to.

It makes perfect sense...I shoot an M3 which means it is a small camera that fits in my pocket. I carry it to shoot generally short range, indoors, available light or darkness, black and white, and never landscapes, action, teles, etc.
If I were to win the lottery and wound up with a new F6, I am curious as how it would be used. Certainly not like the M3 as I would most likely not have it in my pocket or held discreetly. So, what is the genre of photos that an F6 is used for mostly?:angel:
In this thread, lenses are not important, just the size, form, functions, features, strengths and weaknesses of the F6 body. What the heck do people shoot with the F6, regardless of lens choice?

Agreed...which is exactly why I am trying to identify the general genre of photos that an F6 is actually used for...sports? Portraits? Street? Studio? Landscapes? Or, is it really being used at all? B&H is still selling brand new F6 cameras so there must be a market...which one?

I personally think that the best Nikon for film was and still is the F5. The only two reasons for me to even think about an F6 are the red focus brackets(easier to see than black of F5) and the slightly smaller size. The downside is the price and it's use of NON AA batteries. I'm not bothered about matrix for m/f as I don't use m/f lenses and the meter on the F5 is way better than anything else anyway. It never needed improving. I've shot plenty with the F5 and every image is bang on focus and perfectly exposed even in very tricky lighting.
I'm off to India in 2 weeks and will take the D700 and the F5 plus 24-70, 85 1.4 and a 50 1.4, all autofocus. Yes it's a bit of weight to carry around but I know this lot will do the pictures I want to get.
Being in a mass crowd of paint powder and water throwing is no place for non weather sealed cameras. If I can get an F6 within 2 weeks i'll take that instead of the F5 to save a bit of weight 😉
Current pricing for F6's is still way to high IMO and is only justifiable over the F5 if you need something specific, unless of course you don't care about cost in which case dis regard my sensible suggestions and spend away. It simply is not 3x the camera an F5 is.

Yes, the F5 was fantastic and I miss mine....it had the MF28 databack on it and was perfect. I had it matched up with my D2H and that was a lot of weight to carry around in a backpack but they got the job done with tele zooms.

I prefer the F4 for its traditional controls, and using my manual focus lenses. SLR's are more versatile than rf cameras and they are suitable for any genre of photography where 135 film type is appropriate.

Nikon f6, 35/2 lens, Provia 100 film...
And, Tri-X film, out in the rain (never really worried about showers with the F6)...

I'd agree with JSU about F100's however one of the plus points for F5's is that they balance the 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 zooms better than the smaller bodies. JSU reminded me of how I used to moan about the F100 because of that and the F6 will be the same. Add the handgrip to the F100 and the F6 and they are bigger than the F5 anyway. Can't win!

Dave, believe it or not I scanned those three years ago with an Epson 4990 flatbed. I think they'd be grain-sharp today if I rescanned with my Plustek 7600i, but I'm not sure the color would be as good...the Epson nailed color from slides.
