In my guest room / home office where I'm sitting now, there are Nine. Four landscape, Two of kids, One of my parents, one of friends, one "street" shot in the NYC subway.

Not at all pretentious. If even you don't like your own photos, who might?

I would imagine you shot a photo because the finished shot would appeal to you. If it does so appeal, why would you not want to hang it in your house?

As a for instance, I design board games. I do like to play my own designs. Why? Because I made something I knew i'd like!

I only take photos of things I would hang on my wall (or give as a gift).

Before marriage: framed photos were on most walls in the home.
Marriage: Not a single photo is hung at a wall.

Both methods were good.

I only display family pictures none of that artsy fartsy stuff. After I process my film, put them in sleeves and then into boxes I never look at them again. I don't scan or do anything with them. And I have hundreds of pages. I don't know where to start.

I have a small number, three or four, on the walls right now. They're in bedrooms or office, not in the "public" areas. Oops, maybe one of my son. Maybe. I'm not at home right now to confirm. I have a space in a well lit stairwell that I plan to hang a few when I get them ready to go.

I print small, so a wall in a big room isn't necessarily the best place to show prints. On that stair landing, I can have decent light, and a small space that I could hang a handful of 8x10 prints framed.

Isn't the point of recording images to enjoy them later and preserve them? I have my work hanging my walls and have given prints to my family as gifts when I felt they would create some enjoyment.

Oddly, I don't have many conventional photos hanging up except for an original Ansel Adams Moon over Half Dome (which my parents bought at one of his many going out of business sales in the 1970s) and one Balthazar Korab fiber print of Yamasaki's Reynolds Aluminum regional office (which print I also bought at a garage sale and spent several days reframing).

Most of my print output for non-family stuff goes right to commercial venues. By the time that stuff gets perfected, I am fairly bored with it!

Your question has confused me. My main goal when photographing is to print and hang on the wall later. Since I don't shoot for profit, what - in addition to albums and self-printed books - should be the final goal, anyways ? I'm continuously looking for additional wall space, at home and in the office 🙂 Currently, my biggest print at home is 20x30". And my dear wife does a superb job framing and placing the prints ....

I do feel pretentious when gifting others one of my prints. So I do that very rarely and only with close friends and family. They have learned to deal with my pretentions, anyways. 🙂
