I have an opportunity to buy this lens for a decent price, $1100.
Is there anything about this model that I should know? I have looked and it appear to be a good lens that should compliment my 50mm Summicron v4.
Thanks for you time.

I have this lens, and love it. It is small, and sharp, and $1100 in good condition seems reasonable, but I might offer $900 - which is what I was able to get it for. Of course, box, hood, papers etc, all change the price.
My understanding is that it is as good as the V4, which seems to have risen in price to insane levels.
Perhaps others will have a different opinion.

It's a really great lens, better built than the v4, and has good IQ. I'd say go for it.

But now to add to the dilemma, I found a 28mm Elmarit ver 3 for $1250 from a dealer.
The summicron is from the auction site.
I have been following the other thread regarding the 28 vs 35mm debate and it had given me a bunch to thing about.

It's not a dilemma but a conundrum. And the right answer is to get both (that's what I did

Possibly in the future, lol. To deepen the conundrum (if they can be deepened), I am leaving for Roatan (Carribean) on Sunday and would like to take the new lens with me.

I use an M6 Wetzlar, and have a Ricoh GXR w/ M module on order. Looking at possibly ordering a digital M in the future.

I'd say go for it. Mine compliments my v4 50mm Summicron just fine. I sold my 28mm Ultron once I got the 35mm 'cron though because 28, 35, 50 all seemed a bit too much at the same end. Depends on your shooting style though. I've honestly not yet taken a photo with my v3 Summicron and wished I had a different 35mm though - except maybe a Summilux ASPH but that's a different budget altogether. The same can't be said of other 35mm's I've owned and I can say the 'cron has satisfied my 35mm "itch" the best of them all.

That's a real tough call then ... the more flexible lens for your trip is the 35 (due to speed, etc), but then again, it's more reliable to get the 28 from the dealer until you leave.

For the trip I don't really think I will miss the one stop difference between the 35mm Summicron and the 28 Elmarit. I have been to Roatan a few times and it will most likely be very sunny everyday I'm there.
