A friend who is a professional animator posted this on his FB page.

Wow such talented people ... and the equipment used along with the techniques is fascinating!

I knew there was quite a process involved to produce an animated film but had no clue just how much was involved. These people really did amazing work that still holds up today.

Amazing how even though technology has changed so much over the years, there is still 2 main functions that remain, 1) good story is still all that matters, 2) folks sitting at desks creating a scene frame by frame (though today it's done using a PC, but same thing...)

Was a great video! Thanks for the share!

And the narrator was speaking like he'd just downed a pot of coffee!

LOL ... they all seemed to be like that in those times. 😀

The friend who originally posted this on FB was someone I met while photographing a computer game creating marathon. I was fascinated watching him with his drawing tablet in front of his computer.

When you look at that film it makes you realise how many human beings and other resources it took to make a short animated feature in those days. Now it's more about software and processing power ... though there still needs to be a human artistic drive behind it all.

a blu ray (or even better, a 4k) transfer of a cel animated film is a site to behold.

I remember the first time I watched Ghost in the Shell on bluray; it was astonishing. You wouldn't believe how intricate the backgrounds in these movies were; another great example is Bambi.

animated films are very important to me; so I am saddened that these days not so many people want to be animators.
