There's a blog entry over at Gizmodo.com (a popular gadget blog) dissing the R-D1 and questioning the importance of rangefinder cameras.
Go speak your mind and defend rangefinder cameras!

What happens, it's the bash the RD-1 day ¿?
Oh yeah please, that absolute piece of crap, send it to me and I will dispose of it properly and forever and for a moderate price. Actually, if you send me two, I'll only charge you 50% more !

Not worth the effort; the review is as well informed on rangefinders and photography as a whole as I am writing a review on American Football by just flipping through Sunday and Monday evenings and having watched a whole match every other Super Bowl here and there.
Nah.
Nah.

Yeah Manolo I knew, only that it started to look like a complot
I can understand though, that considering the effort that 'trusted' reviewer has had to make to come up with such a stupid review, he may just be trying to spread it allaround (have other blogs and sites point to it) just to feel better

Hey, I worked hard to orchestrate all this to bring the prices down and you give it away!
You should see how the prices of the Nikon E3 skyrocketed after posting some shots. Some guy paid 4x what mine cost, last week on Ebay.
Those LOUSY RD-1's. Get a Full-Frame DSLR! The only thing worth owning. Socke, Oscar, and I will set aside places in our cabinets to display them.

whatever. they've obviously never heard about rangefinders before, and don't even have the technical jargon down.

I read gizmodo occasionally. I get their RSS feed through my journal.
ManGo is right - it's just someone elses information dressed up in a "put down" sort of fashion. The guy also hates all things Mac.
It's odd how people can't see that there are different tools for different jobs and for different people. The SLR or DSLR is NOT going to be able to do everything and the rangefinder won't be able to do all that an SLR or DSLR can do. Just different tools for different jobs. People get blinded by the "shiny" objects that get placed in front of them too often.
Now, where did I leave my M3.. I have to go back to fondling it...

I wanted to leave a snarky comment in that thread, but I found out only 'invited commenters' are able to contribute.. they clearly don't want any open discussion or dissenting opinions.. I also noticed a preponderance of ad-related links.. it seems to be heavily slanted toward generating revenue.. and undoubtedly favoring sponsors
no sense in wasting your time on a site like that

There's only one question you need to ask yourself: do I like my RD-1 (or any other camera that you have)? If yes, then why care whether some one else does not like it?
That's the great thing about democracy; everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion, no matter how stupid it is..

Oh yes I do care, if some RD-1 owners start to believe that the camera is rubbish, I might be able to get a used second body cheap!

Indeed, I now have to admit that these RD-1's are utter rubbish, and that this goes for anything Leica too, especially the upcoming digital M. Wonder if I can persuade my dentist into buying one when it hits the market??

I sent them a mail about it, not snarky but just pointing out what they failed to understand about it

Its amazing that they can publish 'concentrated ingnorance' but deny anyone tha chance of offereing any insightful correction,...this site speciallises in contentious suppositions like;
"........... Digital SLR cameras are now the cat’s pajamas of photography, they do pretty much everything you could ever imagine at really good quality........"
And i love the bit about rangefinders being used "......back in the era of 35mm..."......!?!!
The really sad part is that someone really does need to raise some criticism of the R-D1 to highlight its several serious failings which are not helpful to getting more and better choice in digital cameras in the future,......WHY is this camera so expensive????......it should be a bit dearer than 'run of the mill' products but how can they justify a staggering 4 times the price of DSLR's which have THE SAME SENSOR!!!!......Why did it not get any proper research and development for that price????........Why have so many of these cameras not really worked properly?????......If thye said it was a great idea poorly executed then they would have done all serious photographers a service,...but then again, I suppose 'Gizmodo' is just a site for plebs and gadgeteers, not really FOR serious photographers.
