Sony Mavica, circa 1998.
Hah! That's what I was goint to suggest! We had a ad sales rep where I worked who shot a hundred pics a week with his (company issued) Mavica all the way up til the end in 2009. All the other reps "needed" a new cam every year. Not Harve. He was the best photorapher we had- meaning his were the best pictures. I was office mgr, and had to keep him in floppies.

Also, don't forget that many cameras have only electronic shutter. It would be actually quite funny that the most durable camera could come out to be the ones which are completely electronic and not the DSLR...
There are very very few cameras that have fully electronic shutters. Most are tiny-sensor miniscule cameras fitted in camera phones and such.

Long live the great 5D. Stuns me everyday. A real 'art machine.'

One camera I have immensely enjoyed using and love the output of, despite its quirks, is the Olympus c5050.

Low-light is tough, but like the old days.

When you catch a moment it's really satisfying.

The lens renders some scenes beautifully, something I can't replicate in many other cameras.

When I use it, it instills calm in me as I can not rush.

All pictures are SOOC B&W.

I still love mine!

The Konica Minolta 7D, it still is a lovely camera to use. Colors are nice and the high iso is very good for its age. And it is more expensive then its competition.....
Anyway, picture:
This is 1600 iso btw...

I totally agree. It is still my only DSLR and I have no intention of upgrading it!

what makes a camera a cult camera is the unique design and the handling.
due to great design and awesome handling I think the X100 and the M8 / M9 are already cult cameras.
id also add the digilux 2

Can brand new cameras be cult cameras? Also, some of these cult cameras that people are listing have been great sellers and were critically acclaimed.

Even though it's a digital camera, it retains the qualities and simplicity of the original Holga camera and brings back the joy and delayed gratification associated with good old analog photography.

Apple QuickTake should be mentioned in this thread. I took my first digital picture with one and was amazed: 640x480 pixels.

I think that a current "cultish" digital camera would be the Panasonic GF1/GX1, the Olympus OM-D and the Fuji X100
Another obscure and cultish digital camera would be the Canon EOS-1D, possibly the D30 as well; most of their owners don't want to let it go.

I am surprised that the Nikon D40 hasn't got a vote. The D40 is still actively spoken about on Nikon forums as a great starter DSLR. It was my first DSLR, and I wish I had kept it. Easy to use, good JPEG SOOC. If I still had mine, it would be my oversize p&s.
Agreed: I keep mine. One of the very few amateur cameras with a flash sync of 1/250, IIRC
