Took me a couple of nights to almost completely overhaul this because of all the corrosion and its overall state when I found it 😱😱😱

converted the shutters to titanium. all speeds are OK except 1/500 which fires at 1/430. I still need to do a minor fix to make 1/8 fire properly but that's easy.🙄

And here is my S2 with the 3.5cm f1.8. From the markings and the research I've done, this seems to be the modern remake from the early 2000's. And even though it looks well used, its still clicks and focuses smoothly. Cant wait to develop this roll and see how it performs!

When not using the SP, I sometimes shoot the exact same combo: chrome dial S2, 1.8 Nikkor, and the Leitz SBLOO. The built-in 3.5cm finder on the SP is, well, less than ideal.

I often miss my S3, I should not be in this thread. The patch on my s3 was so dim. Would an SP or S2 be a better option for a brighter rangefinder?

Here are some examples to compare. One is the view from the Leica M3. Probably the brightest and clearest patch and viewfinder of all rangefinders. The other is the view from my S2. Obviously a more defused and less defined patch. But still very workable. It only suffers in low light situations where it becomes difficult to align the images. But in daylight and well lit indoor situations, it performs well. Hope this helps.

The combo is such a joy to use! And it looks so good together too! lol
The SBLOO has such a nice, bright, and clear view.

Just got this 2 days ago!!!
Already finished a roll of tri-x yesterday. Waiting for a chance to develop and see that the camera speeds are ok. Already checked the lens on the M240 with adapter and it is a beauty even wide open!

Trying this combo for the first time. Running some HP5 at the moment, but will most likely try some color after.
Just got the lens back from CLA, so it will be interesting to see the results this time around.

Its beautiful! I am afraid to use my reissue case. It came new, unused, with my black 2000 S3. Its just too pretty and valuable in my eyes haha. I'd rather use a unique one of a kind Zhou case he sent me that fits the S3 perfectly.

This is my 1st post here. I am the guy running the Classic Nikon Maintenance Blog and I just got my 1st Nikon S! it's a lovely camera and I am hoping to make more S-mount related repairs and article from now. Finally I've found an early All black Nikkor 50mm f/1.4.

As you can read in the books by Bob Rotoloni, these are rather special light weight lenses. These "early black" lenses weigh one third less than the normally produced lenses. The first series is from 1953, so well before the appearance of the black Nikon S2, and in about 400 pieces. At that time the Nikon S was produced. The black Nikon S is extremely rare, only a few were made, so why the early all black Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 was made? Only because of the lower weight?

It is possible that Nikon had plans for a small series of Nikon S cameras in black, but that these plans were cancelled because the S2 was well underway. It can be that at that moment the order to produce the All black Nikkor was already given. The Nikon S was a heavy camera, so maybe Nikon decided to make the lens for the black Nikon S as light as possible.

In the winter i got a Voigtlander SL15mm for super cheap, of course it had to be adapted to my SP2005. Finally i got the adapter from Amedeo. Very nice adapter!

It’s the Voigtlander zoomfinder. Covers 15-35mm. Quite nice.
