Summicron 90mm (second version with built-in lens hood) and Leica M10

I suspect both our lenses are quite sharp. I like to play on the "black is better" trend . Of course there may actually be some variation over time with this 90 summicron....it was produced for quite a while. Mine is more toward the later years of production. It's a very nice but heavy lens. I plan to keep it until my son has to decide what to do with it

I have wanted one of those, off and on--the version with the collapsible hood--since not long after I bought my M2, around 1961 or so. What I actually bought back then was the chrome Elmarit--the first version--and I still have it. It's a great lens, very sharp; but I still sometimes want that Summicron--even though I have the ASPH now. I think it is partly because I like its looks; and partly because of a portrait that was published in one of the yearly photography annuals I used to see in the Air Force Base library. It was of young girl named "Birgitta," taken with the 90mm Summicron. Funny how we remember things like that. I don't know if I will ever bother to get one. In the meantime, enjoy it for both of us, OK, Raid?

OK Rob! My Summicron is called Birgitta! Deutsch?

The 90 summicron sure is heavy compared to the first version elmarit ;) My elmarit needs some focus adjustment, but when I use it on a visoflex I can get surprisingly good results. The v1 elmarit was plentiful and "cheap" for a while. Still?

The 90mm f/2 is one of three lenses I use on my M6 and M10. I primarily use it for portraits and reportage.

It works well with my 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss, and my 21mm f/1.4 Leitz.

A fast 35mm lens is a good support lens to the Summicron 90. I use the pre-asph Summilux 35/1.4 or the Canon LTM 35/1.5 or 35/2.

Hey, guess what? I'm finally getting one. I saw the chrome one with the collapsible shade on eBay. Then I saw it was from Popflash, described as having no fungus, no haze. The price seemed good. I had the money in my paypal account. I bought it. It should be here in a few days. I think I will try it on my chrome M2, and also on my M5. The latter is black, but that's OK; I think it might balance well on the M5. And I will use it on the M9 and M9M. This is exciting!

I hope you enjoy it. Don't feel bad if it's a lens that gets infrequent use. It's still great and the best lens in your stash for certain purposes. I still love mine.
