Why do all these "old" cars seem fairly new to me?

In most cases, they have been very carefully and thoroughly restored, at great expense.

It is very rare for a car to have been with its original owner all these years and be in such (original) condition. In fact, even if always garaged, I think paint would still oxidize and upholstery materials could still break down over a period of 50 years.

An old photo of what would now be an old car. I took this picture of my family's Buick Skylark when I was 10. Though I don't recall the exact year model for certain, there's a good chance I was taking a picture of the new car, so I'll guess that it's a 1972 model. While the Buick is long gone, I actually still have the Kodak Instamatic that I took this photo with — my first camera.

It is a Subaru but I cannot remember the model.

This is the original Subaru Kei car from the 1960s. I believe it was sold briefly in the US as the Subaru 360 (as in 360 cc engine). It was our first exposure to the brand.
