Super excited, M7 on the way!

Nice Royal QDL! Is this the Dreyfus-designed version?

I think Dreyfus did the redesign the year after mine was made, iirc. This is the same version Hemingway used. I was a bit shocked to see what they’re going for on eBay now in good shape. I just like to use mine on occasion.

Still waiting on batteries, but I went ahead and loaded a roll of HP-5. Should be able to grab batteries locally tomorrow, and I ordered a bunch on Amazon today.

It is always so exciting to put a new camera through its paces. Good for you! Congratulations on the new-to-you acquisition. I had an M7 in the early-mid 2000's and found the automatic meter very accurate and easy to use. Good luck with it!

You do know you can put in 4 S76 silver oxide batteries?

I do. Couldn’t get those today either. Ended up getting close to a foot of snow, my road was not passable for 90% of the day. I’d rather get the cr 1/3n, from what I’ve heard it’s easier to load, last longer, and makes the camera more accurate.

Even the digital Ms being turned up to 11 is to me nothing compared to seeing that 7 on the front of a film Leica, lacking only autofocus, which we wouldn’t want. Enjoy that great camera. At one point I might have bought Barnwulf’s M7 but I just didn’t need another camera. Sad I didn’t do it and sad he’s no longer here.

Just about through the first roll, which is fast for me. I loaded a roll of hp5 in it, so I could also shoot my son indoors during the day. Really liking the camera so far. It is incredibly smooth to use, and the shutter is near silent.

This. So, I hope that this serial number has the updated VF and DX reader. Can anyone confirm? Cheers, OtL.
This is an a-la-cart camera, which had their own set of serial numbers. In this case, rather than relying on the serial number, take a look at the latch on the inside of the base plate. If it has a rubber washer under the center screw (unless upgraded by Leica, the early M7 cameras don't have this), you probably have the optical DX coding (if this is the case, it should also have the VF condenser).

First 3 rolls of film are back! Very happy with the results and using the M7. Here are a few examples with my son, his 2 year checkup at the doctors, and around the family homestead. I also shot a gig with it, a Hindu naming ceremony, and very happy with the photos from that as well.

I had a chrome M7 back 15 years or so ago. I tapped it against a wall once and big flake of chrome came off, revealing the brass underneath. Nice camera, put a lot of Kodachrome through it in those last years of that film. Never liked the modern frame lines though. Always seemed a bit inaccurate for the distances I usually shot. The AP made me a bit of a happy snapper too, but still liked it better then the MP I had at the same time. Now I shoot a gaggle of M2's. Wish I kept it though ... ha, ha, would have been a nice investment. Enjoy it, very practical camera.
