Deardorff, you can get better bright tones by making split grade prints (part of the exposure with filter 00 and the other part of the exposure with filter 5). Good luck!

Thanks Erik, These are just my first test prints. I use either the color head on my Durst 138, or the Zone VI variable contrast head on my Beseler 45MXT... only rarely do i split grade print..... & still get the results i'm after. I know it's your method. I still just take iPhone photos of prints (& don't plan on buying a scanner),.... so the images are really just an approximation. As well, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico can have very strong light, printing down all the highlights and opening the shadows often makes a print lose the effect of that characteristic.
How are your results w/ your 8 element replica ?
