All,
Hang tight! I have been very frustrated with the performance and issues here on RFF since the new upgrade to vb5. Needless to say, We have been working and testing alternative solutions to remedy the horrible performance we are getting with the current system. Having said that, I am please to let you know that I am just completing a test run of a migration to Xenforo forum software which is exponentially better than the VB5 we currently have. When we are done, there will be a slight learning curve on how to use it and its features. But, from what I have seen so far it just blows away Vbulletin. Vbulletin was good until they were sold a few years ago. But things have changed.
When I am ready for a more testing, I will reach out to a few who take part in this thread to let them know how to reach the test site and play around.
Better software,
Better Server
More CPU
More RAM
more better !

Awesome! I frequent the Steve Hoffman forums and enjoy the experience. Link below if folks want to check out XenForo-based forums:

Performance of the Xenforo software is fast and for the most part bug free.
With the present RFF software- every post made with an attachment seems to crash the connection.

Thank you for this update. I hope that the required learning curve will be short.

This is a relief. I was seriously preparing for a post-RFF existence just a day or two ago. Good luck JT.
The new site is Fast. Just posted a thread with several attachments. Fast, easy to use. Xenforo seems to be the new standard.
Bravo! I have run a site using Xenforo for several years, feel free to message me, happy to help in any way, can recommend some cool add-ons.

I frequent a forum that runs XenForo and IIRC they also migrated from vBulletin. I also don't remember much of a change when they did migrate.

Glad to hear something new is in the works. I like this site and know it has some really good info... but it is so difficult for me to post I never post photos and rarely post replys, which kind of undermines the nature of the site.

Thank you to the mods for looking after us, and working to provide a reliable space for us to share ideas and experiences. Looking forward to the new forum. Hopefully with less/no Cloudflare cut offs, too.
Edited to add: I tried to post this comment and the page hung up for minutes, then timed out with a 522 error message.

I've run an online forum of my own for the past decade and realize just how much time and effort a site such as this is capable of consuming from those involved behind the scenes. Here in 2023, online forums that continue to exist likely only do so because those pulling the strings view them as a labor of love.
With that in mind I simply wanted to thank those involved behind the scenes here at RFF (from the site owner to the moderators, etc.) and wish you all the best of luck in your work to improve things.

I, too, have been frustrated with the performance of the forum since the upgrade. This is exciting news and I am grateful to those who make this forum possible and pursue the technology to make it even better.
Many thanks to Steven, JT, and any others involved in this endeavor!

Good news! My user experience was a mixed bag in the last couple of weeks.
One question: Do we have to expect broken links again? (to galleries, to older forum entries)
This was an annoying thing after the last big change.

Thank you for this effort, after 5 attempts today with 1 visit I also was about to give up on RFF.

This is good news. I'm pretty sure it put a damper on some activities, such as the Big Christmas Give-Away. It was also frustrating that sometimes just the reading of a thread was enough to freeze the site for hours on end. After seeing the positive remarks by those who have experience with the new software and site, I can only say the change can't come too soon. Good luck with the transition, Mr. MP Guy.

Hoping for the best. I have rarely visited this site since the vb "upgrade"... too frustrating. Good luck with Xenforo.
