When traveling I always (Edit: not always, oft!) take photos from the window of my hotel room, without touching anything

I unfortunately have been in worse. My wife and I went to Birmingham to catch the train to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. We didn’t think we’d have any problem getting a room but we were wrong. There were two conventions and a huge basketball playoff and no rooms for miles. It was late and pouring rain and would have stayed in our car but the rain made it less attractive.Back in June of '21, my B M Trouble-you (I say it sort of affectionately, that car has been sold) caused me to reside for an evening at the Super 8 in Medford, Oregon.
Headed out the door the following morning I was struck by the interior of my upstairs hallway.

We had to backtrack about thirty miles on a tip that there was a room in a HoJo so we went for it. When we got there there were no rooms except in a condemned wing of the motel. We talked the manager into renting it to us and after seeing it we almost opted to sleep in the car in the rain.
The door had rusted through, dead riches all over the room, nasty sheets that I’m sure bums had urinated on and the curtain wouldn’t stay shut and tile was falling off the wall. I know why it was condemned.
We did get the manager to get us clean bedding and did survive the night but was the most disgusting place I’ve ever slept.

I believe Alex Soth's photo story "Niagara: (Magnum 2006) sets the standard for this. Book is great. But his original slide slow presentation with his personal narration of the emotion contained in his photos, once on "Magnum in Motion" was incredible. But "Magnum in Motion" is no longer available on line, presumably because there was no way to monetize it.
However there is an internet archive of his original 4 minute presentation of his photos. Niagara : Alec Soth : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive Watch it and see why Soth considers himself more of a poet than a documentary photographer.

X Ray, It wasn't that the place was so bad (was funky for sure) but bleak! I saw that meeting room and shuddered to think of a business renting it for a retreat, or Strategic Planning. It also brought on an Eggleston moment. -DavidI unfortunately have been in worse. My wife and I went to Birmingham to catch the train to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
