I was constantly attracted to the Orient Watches. I was not familiar with the brand but I took a chance and bought an Orient Star wrist watch and I was really impressed with the quality, style, and precision of the watch. Over a period of time I bought a few more.
I like mechanical watches. Most of what I have are Seikos and Seiko clones like the Islanders. Great value for the money. Seiko owns Orient, and I believe Orient Star is the premium marque within that subsidiary. They are fantastic watches. Classic styling, very well regulated -- kind of a sleeper brand in the US.
But I also have a soft spot for that midcentry modern design. Seiko had a run in the 60's and 70's of producing very stylish (to my eye) Japan Domestic Market watches like the Skyliner or the Crown. Hamilton also made some great, stylish watches in that era.
Now that I know this thread is here, I will have to haul some of these out and take some pix. Personally, I have never gone to the trouble of matching a camera to a watch for style purposes, but you could go that route pretty easily. I think the Nikon D3 might go with a big, rugged watch. A Nikon rangefinder might go with one of those elegant midcentury designs, and so on.
My manual watches outnumber my electric watches about 10:1. I am sentimental about the complexity and beauty of the movements and I like the idea of a mechanical device that can work for a long, long time if well-tended.
Dreamwatch: The Omega Speedmaster -- Moonwatch. Not particularly waterproof, and with a Hesalite crystal rather than saphire, but the styling OOOoooo. M3 -worthy, if I can make the analogy.
