Who shoots mainly with a 50 or a 35?

I have come to the conclusion that the 50 is my go to lens for almost everything. It is versatile in so many ways. Not to mention, as of now I have 4 different 50's :)

Having said that, I am experimenting with a new site dedicated to just 50mm users which is very similar to what rff gallery is based on. This is brand new and has no traction. So if you want to get in at the beginning, have a look at www.50mil.com and post a few of your sots taken with a 50.

I also setup www.35mmImages.com which is empty for now until I ad some images.

By the way, No forums there. Just a message board I created along with the abilities to create Photo Essays.

So strictly 35mm format, not medium format (80mm)? Or 32mm for APS-C format?

Does this mean an 80 on a tlr will fit the criteria of 50 on a 35? That is a good question and if we are talking about field of view . That would open up the site to 80 as well .

What say you ?

I think two or more forums spreads the wealth too thin. I would opt for "normal" field view rather than 35, 50, or 80. 35-50 "equivalent" if you will.
If the forum gets too busy, you reserve the option of separating them out later.

Starting out in 1971, I used a 55/2 exclusively because that's all I could afford; I used it for 15 years. Later came to realize that is how I prefer to view things. For an experiment, I'd take a zoom, then move it through different focal lengths until the image looked good to me, then look at the focal length setting: 50mm.

The same viewing angle is true for me in other formats: e.g. 90mm in 6x7.

IMHO, "50mil" works fine for the purposes of hosting a site for normal FLs. You can make it cleat on the site itself what its intent is and what is allowed or permissible.
 
I would say largely normal (50, 58 mm on 135, 80 mm on 6x6) and slightly wide (35mm on 135), but what did change that from "almost everything" to "largely" is my Voigtlander SC Skopar 21mm f4 on the Contax, which I love also. I do have other lenses outside that range (say 35-60mm for 135) that I use occasionally, but my 99% frequency total range (based on 135) is 21mm-135mm, and in terms of frequency is heavily weighted towards wide-normal.
 
I used to "see " the world like a 50 sees . But sometime in middle age, I started seeing wider. So now my cameras generally have a 35 on them. I still like a 50 when I want to isolate the subject a bit.
 
I genrally shoot with 35's on my M2 (Summaron) and M6 (Summicron) and 50's on my IIIf's (Summitar & Summicron). Those combos just feel natural to me.
 
It is also very important how large the photo appears on the screen. Large screens show a large image and small screens a small one. The viewing distance to the screen is almost always (approximately) the same. How big is the screen to view 135 format photos (35mm film) taken with a 50mm lens approximately life size?
 
Spent the afternoon yesterday with my Nikon F4, a 50/1.4 & a roll of Kentmere 400. Good reminder that I prefer to see the world through a 50mm lens :cool:
 
I own lenses of various focal lengths for my 35mm film cameras.
I use 35mm for 75%+ of my images. OTOH I seldom use a 50mm.

I own (and use) a lot of lenses but I mainly use 50mm and 35mm focal lengths. I usually carry two cameras, one for each focal length.

I think “59mil” is fine (although I like “50mm” more). You have a subtitle, so why not use that to explain you mean 35mm format equivalent?
