Back from the street, I discover that my Summarit-M 50/2.5 (bought 2008 june) lost the flat ring in front of the barrel. The lens works fine, but I am annoyed, it does not look smart and above all the serial number lacks (and maybe the lens is a bit more at risk of dust ?).

Yes, the bezel ring does help seal the interior of the lens from dust, to some degree.
Stuff happens, even the best machines need occasional repair. Send it to Leica or a Leica service provider and have a new bezel ring fitted.

Thanks Godfrey. Your answer is what I feared for this occurence. But I make photos, not speculation on gear market. So I will continue shooting with it. Maybe with a filter (I have a Leica UV 39 I never use).

The filter is a good idea. I guess the bezel is just held in place by a blob of glue (like the tiny red dots).

Ol' Man Rockwell on the subject...

LEICA SUMMARIT-M 50mm f/2.5 (low-price, unremarkable lens für Voigtländer und Zeiss kameras)

2007-today, 39mm filters, 230g. 11 644.

I haven't used this new lens, but the other Summarit-M lens I used had superb optical quality with sub-par mechanical quality.

I wouldn't buy one of these. For less money you can get a used 50mm SUMMICRON lens of whatever vintage you like for one-quarter the price.

The name ring on the original Cosina Voigtlander 50/1.5 Nokton is screwed in, no glue. I made a rubber ring to take it off. On Tight.

Summarit-M has less chromatic aberration and less flare than Summicron.

I am afraid am a kind of obstinate guy. Six days after I lost the bezel, for the second time I followed slowly my path, scrutinizing around my feet, bent head like a poor thing, and when I was one mile from home...

I am impressed. This is the sort of thing I thought only I would do!

I really like the Summarits, and agree that the 50mm f2.4 and 2.5 Summarits are better than the v5 Summicron.

I mean, wow! You need to privately message me 6 numbers between 1 and 59 😎

I did it when I lost the screw in eyepiece from my F4. Walked up and down the whole main Street but never found it. Good news, the eye piece from the F90 is of the same diameter.

Bravo! Persistence and patience rewarded. I'm amazed you found it. Once I lost the eyepiece to an as-new FM2n -- managed to retrace my steps and find it, but that was just a matter of minutes and maybe a hundred yards. This is an all-time topper.

That's awesome congrats.

Once lost a eyepiece from a Zorki. Started backtracking, scrutinizing the sidewalk, and explained the situation to a passerby. He then plucked the eyepiece from the curb, just like that.

Very good! You can probably see how it was affixed to the lens and just set it back the way it was.

I've lost bits like that and found them the same way. It's a reminder that some things in the physical world do not move all that fast or far. I remember some years ago when I did a walk every morning, the same walk ... I'd make photographic compositions of detritus on the sidewalk and road. After a couple of months, I noticed that many small things moved just a little bit every day but were in the same couple of square feet for days and weeks on end. The notion of this semi-static world of small objects fascinated me... and once you get it, you can take advantage of it.

Get the lens back together and keep on making photos! 😀
I have the Summarit-M 75mm f/2.4 .. I once had the Summilux 75. Much happier with the Summarit: It weighs less than half as much as the 'Lux... and its imaging qualities are very nice.
