Third-Party Legendary Lenses- Post your Favorites

Don't claim it to be legendary but third party yes , Revuenon f 1.4 on my canon 6d. I think its a Cosina lens.

In this context -- First party: camera owner. Second party: camera manufacturer. Third party: lens manufacturer; distinct from the other two parties.

Ditto in other contexts such as contracts, software, insurance.
 
IMO the Cosina-made Carl Zeiss classic lenses are or should be considered legendary. I have several in the Nikon ZF.2 T* mount and they are all pretty incredible. The ones I have are the 50/1.4 Planar, 35/2 Distagon, 25/2 and 25/2.8 Distagons and the 18/3.5 Distagon. Why have two 25mm lenses? Well, the 25/2 is very sharp across the field but it's large and heavy. The 25/2.8 is only very sharp in the center but the transition to the soft borders is old school and I like the look. It's also smaller, lighter and focuses very close. I use the ƒ/2.8 more for those reasons plus I found it for sale at a good price although a little on the "used" side.

I'm also quite fond of the several Cosina-made Voigtlander M-mount lenses I use on my Fuji X-Pro cameras with TTArtisan adapters. The tiny 35/2.5 and 21/4 Color Skopars should be considered legendary just for the performance that comes in the small package. I had the 39mm screw-mount models on M-adpaters for my Leica M6's in the past. Today I really enjoy using the M-mount models on the Fujis.

The 35mm CV is LTM. It is a sleeper. I never would have dreamed it to be this good. It works very well with an M240 yielding Agfachrome results as opposed to Kodachrome, IMO. Fortunately there are folks on this board who know more about lenses than I do.

I had one as my first 35mm lens and used it extensively on my first Zeiss Ikon. I recently picked up another, accident really, as I ought to thin out the 35s… your lovely picture doesn’t help. A good reminder that there is such a thing as sharp enough and that other qualities matter just as much.

I’ve a few of the Cosina made Zeiss lenses in ZF/ZF2 mount - my 50 is a makro-planar rather than the 1.4 and my 35 is the 1.4. No 25! I’ll post something some time - I’ve been thinking of a new thread along the lines of ‘tales from the lens lab (cupboard)’.

I also had a colour-Skopje 35/2.5 in the past and I did like it very much.

To be fair, when the Konica 35mm f/2 (non UC) came out in M39 in the mid-1990s, it was not making the lens for a camera body it was then-currently selling or ever had sold. So, it was a kind of "third party" lens for M39/M-mount cameras at the time. 🙂. When the UC came out in 2001, the Hexar RF was in production, though. But the UC was not originally conceived with the RF in mind. In fact, the M-Hex 35mm f/2 is a 100% different lens.
