A true legend
Spent over a week rafting with him and his sons down the Green River in 2009.
Very good memories
Sorry to hear the news., condolences to the family.

These men were a large part of the biggest inspirations of my young life, and why I wanted to work at NASA. I realized that dream with four years of work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the middle 1980s.

Nothing lasts forever, another hero gone. Time is cruel.

Godspeed, Bill Anders! 😢

I'm sorry to hear this, as others have said, inspiration for a generation.

Did I read somewhere that on the missions that landed on the moon they left their Hassleblad bodies behind in order to save weight? Or is this an urban myth?

Borman had a lot to do with improving the safety of the Apollo command module after the disastrous launchpad fire the year before. But Borman, Lovell and Anders were three brave men to do what they did.

No, it was reported and well known at the time. I think they should go back and get them, as long as another moon trip is planned! It might only take a short side trip!

They issued a stamp with this image. IMG_9492.jpeg

My aunt used to travel to the Apollo launches in Florida and she’d get the commemorative patches of each of the astronauts and send them to me and my brother. Those guys were all heroes to us kids growing up. Buzz is still around!

Buzz is still around!
He sure is! Just don’t question the moon landing!! :)

This is really stunning!
Yes, very quick reaction to get this, and then the discipline of so quickly knowing it was not colour. Frank Borman, commander, joked: “Don’t take that. It’s not in the schedule.” Quite amazing that a shot of Earth like this was not in the schedule. I’d have been kicking myself back home that I hadn’t realized this was ‘only black and white’, but it’s also an amazing shot. I have one or two colleagues who might have been in the astronaut league. They don’t make mistakes.
