new Pixii Max (fullframe)

There have been lots of predictions of what the Pixii can or cannot do, what it will or will not do. Included features have been criticized and ridiculed, until they have turned up on other cameras where they also work well. So suggesting what the Max will do or will not do is dangerous. The A2572 image quality is quite good as well as its color. Pixii is justifying its place in the market. And its trick of being able to do RAW color and RAW mono has been criticized and ridiculed but here it is and it is working. RAW mono or color in the same camera. The concept of being able to upgrade your camera without having to buy a new one is a refreshing idea.

So while there were a lot of folks who said it cannot be they are now more quiet. Pixii is novel, quality and it works.

I have a number for my upgrade to the Max and it will be done, hopefully, in September. If not in October. It will be done and I will move from APS-C to Full Frame in the same Pixii box. And those M body lenses will now all be what they say they are. ;o) I will post images as soon as I have some.
 
I am very into photography, but haven’t been keeping up to date with cameras in the past few years. I never knew about Pixii cameras until I somehow stumbled across them somewhere on the Internet a couple days ago. Very cool! Been in full research mode since!

I just took the plunge and pre-ordered the new Max. I realize I’m rolling the dice a bit here, but I’m very excited about it! Hope to have something to share when I eventually receive it. 🙂

FWIW, I'm a bit of a PIxii fanboy. I have been using the camera for a few years now. I got it initially as the A1571, got it upgraded to the A2572, got the + upgrade but never got around to sending it in for the upgrade and am now awaiting my call to send the A2572 in for the + and the Max upgrade.

I like the images the camera offers, mono and color. I do not like the shutter button but otherwise it is a good camera. And I am an ardent Francophile so that helps their case, too. There is a Pixii group on FB that is fun so you might want to swing by there and see what is happening.

You are a great salesman for Pixxi and I am delighted by their success to date. I haven’t succumbed but it’s not for a lack of enthusiasm about their product and willingness to take the risk of building it.

I am honestly quite fond of the camera for a few reasons. One of those reasons is the image. Here are Pixii images. I post them not a good photos but as examples of how the camera sees:

And to address the most controversial point so far: no, the video does NOT actually call Leica M users "Farquaads"... it just notes that when using an M in public, you may LOOK like one (meaning, of course, Lord Farquaad, the aristocratic character in "Shrek" who enjoys displaying his wealth...)

No need to wonder. It depends on shutter speed. IIRC <1/60 and no banding. Understand, you are under no obligation to buy one. Are you in the market for one and this is the stumbling block?

I use a Hasselblad X1Dii with electronic shutter for adapted M-mount lenses. The shutter readout time is 300 ms! But shots ruined by artificial lights are rare for me. But it's good that I don't try to photograph the vehicle sideshows on the streets of my city.

Not incandescent or fluorescent. LED's will confound the electronic shutter. When I have the MAX I will see how that one works. They need to find a solution for this problem. OTOH, I do not shoot a lot under LED's. Nothing actually. This is a Pixii problem though.

This is an electronic shutter issue shared by all cameras with electronic shutters. I learned it the hard way when playing with various Fuji X bodies. Any artificial light source? Make sure you're on mechanical. I even spotted it yesterday while playing with the M240's live view in my living room - noticeable "ripples" across the LCD.

Here in the UK, there's LCD lighting everywhere. Electronic shutter is a liability, sadly.

I could be in the market to buy one - I’m delighted there is an alternative to Leica and applaud and like to support people trying new and brave things. The LED banding would be an issue for me if it was an only camera - what use is more important than pics of family and friends. All our lighting is now led.

I’m really pleased that Pixxi exists.
 
I get the banding at > 1/60. I do not shoot indoors with it. I have to send it back to France for the upgrade to Max. To be honest no camera is perfect. But this camera does just fine other than around LED's at 1/60 or greater. I am aware of this flaw and just live with it.

I get the same banding with the electronic shutter on another camera but it is OK with the leaf shutter, of course.

Fluorescent especially. The lights flicker at 50hz (here, or the frequency of your electricity wherever you are).
