A couple of days ago I almost succumbed to a temptation to buy Hasselblad 500C with Sonnar 150 and two backs (12 and A24). The asking price was 900€ (about the same in USD at the current rate). I had a chance to test it. The camera and lens are recently serviced, but still with one issue which I discovered during my testing. The issue is that in mirror lock up mode the shutter leaves remain slightly open (see the photo) making it impossible to use in this mode. Other than that it works flawlessly. When I said this to the seller he dropped the price by 200€, so it is 700€ for the camera with two backs and the lens which is very clean (but with this described issue). What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Well, I think the 200 euro discount would pay for a repair, so I would certainly consider buying it and sending the lens to a qualified repair center. You might ask the seller for a return privilege in case the technician discovers more serious problems; or in case it can't be repaired for the 200 euros. I'm having a little trouble imagining what the mirror lockup has to do with the shutter not closing all the way; but evidently there is a reason! Yes, see if the seller agrees to your having a professional look at it and give you an estimate.

Well, that was some months ago. I returned the camera. I think it was sold to another buyer by now. For the same money I bought Mamiya 645 AFD with 80/2.8 lens :) I will play for a while and then probably sell it. It is quite bulky, but feature rich…
