I think it'd be interesting to talk with Atget. Maybe show him all the photographers who copy (knowingly or by coincidence) his style of photography today.

Well, but not particularly coherently. A guy on the Leica Users Group, Phil Swango, knew William Eggleston when he was young and said that WE was incredibly engaging, well read and intelligent. That was some time ago. But believe it or not I cleaned and shined WEs shoes for him. They were very nice Italian leather shoes. One thing I can say for sure: William Eggleston is very comfortable with not talking. Silence is not uncomfortable for him.

HCB, because he was so articulate about art. But I fear he would have been far beyond my league conversationally.
James Ravilious, because he was apparently inspired by the very same HCB exhibition that turned me onto photography, and was by all accounts a very likeable guy. He pursued a career in photography, I didn’t. But I like to think we would have hit it off.
There are one or two living RFF members I think I would enjoy meeting over a beer too.

I’m in south-eastern Finland at the moment. The deer flies are starting to be annoying, so that word gets used a bit.

I am an huge admirer of Alex Webb. His compositions are what I strive to achieve and fail. Another photographer is Alan Schaller, a London based photographer who zones with a 24mm for street. I think his gift for photography is only matched by his skills in Lightroom and Photoshop. I would love to attend their workshops.

David Hurn is so articulate and incisive - very direct but very clear sighted.
Ravillious sounds like he was also engaging and his work is so straightforward.
There are several people on here who it would be great to meet and share coffee, beer, whisky with. You do need to visit the northern UK from Aus or Cali though… but let me know if you do come of course.

I live in those parts, in Imatra. Would love to talk and drink beer / whiskey. But currently I'm on my way to Norway on a photo trip by my self. So Perkele <3
Also those deer flies are a nuisance, specially when they're deep in my beard crawling around and when you think you found the last one, there's at least a few you find later in the evening sitting in sauna.

Sorry to have missed such an opportunity! Have been in Imatra in the past, hope to be thereabouts again one day. I love so much about Finland - apart from the deer flies. Even the mosquitoes have a function in keeping the faint-hearted out of the nicest places.

though claimed she only shot it as work , not took sides

I’d let Joanne Bown slip. Yes, remarkable. I loved the answer she gave when someone asked her why she shot so few frames- “I realised that the best shots were always in the first or last few so I stopped taking the ones in the middle”. Genius

I've been reading biographies of Lee Miller. I'd give a lot to sit down with her and convince her to actually talk about her work. Not always very easy though, especially with the various serious traumas of her life story.
