Leica IIIc + Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.5
Ilford HP5​

I used the Color-Skopar 50 on most of this roll, then switched to the Color-Skopar 28. Both are excellent performers and fit the IIIc very nicely.

Lovely pix as always Erik. Makes me wonder why you don't start threads to show and discuss them rather than tacking them onto a thread hiliting a specific photo ... 🤔 I didn't name this thread "Photos using a Color-Skopar 50mm lens" ... Perhaps we should rename the thread to that: wouldn't bother me if that's what folks would prefer.

Kind of what I was thinking as well. We do already have a thread for the 50mm Color-Skopar, though.

The combination of Leica IIIc and Color-Skopar 50mm and Leica IIIc is rather peculiar. You should first explain why you want to see pictures taken with that camera-lens combination. I think you'd be better off using another camera to use that lens. I don't think many people shoot with a IIIc and a Color-Skopar 50mm f2.5, but I could be wrong.

Back to the original post: Interesting photo, nice tonality, and makes you wonder what a "soft opening" is! (What is it?) The open space between "o" and "f" made me think there could be a letter missing--fallen down--but there is not really enough space for one, and I don't know what it could be. An "I" maybe? "Soift Opening?" Nahh.

Thank you @Rob-F and @raydm6! I appreciate the thoughts.

You both highlighted the tonalities expressed, which was one of the first technical things about it (and others on the roll) that struck me when I reviewed these negatives. I hadn't used HP5 in some time, having finally used up all the Tri-X and almost all of the Delta 400 that I bought six or seven years ago. Perhaps the fresh HP5 emulsion accounts for some of the tonality, I am not sure, but it and a few other negs on this roll are very pleasing in this regard to my eye. :)

What a curious comment, Erik! First of all, why would using a 50mm Leica thread mount (LTM or L39) lens on any Barnak Leica body be considered "rather peculiar"? Wasn't the intent of Mr. Kobayashi in creating the Cosina-Voigtländer lenses to provide new lenses, with classic lens formulae, for LTM camera bodies in the context of the limited availability of old LTM lenses still in good shape, since most were becoming degraded due to age, deteriorating glasses, and old-fashioned or non-existent lens coatings?

I bought the IIIc body because I had a few LTM lenses that would suit it nicely, including the Color-Skopar 50/2.5, Color-Skopar 28/3.5, a Leica Elmar 5.0cm f/3.5, and a Pentax 43mm f/1.9 Special, and because I had fond memories of my IIc, IIf, and IIIf from many years ago. I was inspired by using this lovely camera to add a Color-Skopar 35mm f/2.5 to my kit as well. Why is it "rather peculiar" that I would want to use these excellent, modern, LTM Color-Skopar lenses from Cosina on a body that they were designed for?

Second: You seem to be under a mistaken impression that this thread is all about the Leica IIIc and, more specifically, the Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.5 lens. It isn't ... It is a photo thread highlighting a recent photograph I made, which happened to be made with this camera and lens combination. It is part of a series of such threads that I have been posting since:

1- I recently acquired this camera body and have been using it a good bit;
2- people seem to be interested in what I'm doing with it, based upon public and private comments made here and on other forums about it; and
3- since I have a range of lenses that fit this body, and people on these equipment-centric forums seem to always want to know what lens and body was used, I highlight the camera and lens in the subject title for those with such interests.

The point of these posts is to share the photograph, thoughts about it, and maybe discuss those thoughts, the intent, the success or otherwise of its intent, and/or the technology/technique used to create it. As usual, on equipment forums like RFF, the vast majority of the discussion seems always to be about the equipment used rather than the photograph, but occasionally someone interested in the photograph posts a note as Rob-F and raydm6 have done in this thread.

In point of fact, whether I used the lens on a Leica M body, on some other LTM body, on a mirrorless digital body, etc, should make fairly little difference in the resulting image it produces. The fact of what body I used, and of the specific lens itself, should really be secondary consideration to the discussion of the photograph being hilited.

I welcome all and any participation, and I do love most of your photographs, but it seemed a little odd to me that you were posting photograph after photograph illuminating your use of a particular lens in a thread intended to share/discuss one of my photographs. ?? 🤔
