Loving those photos @Yokosuka Mike! I was Hakodate in 2005, and was probably still running on Hawaii time, so I was grateful for stuff to see and do in the early AM. I must have been at the same market, but I don't recall the specific areas depicted in your photos, so maybe I came in via a side entrance.jeffS7444, did you visit the The Hakodate Morning Market?

Was there in early October, and was amazed at how pleasant and mild the weather was, so late in the season, even as far north as Wakkanai.

Getting back to the Old Public Hall of Hakodate Ward. It's a renovated civic building from 1910, with a period interior & harbor views from its balcony.

The interior is amazing. Much of the furniture and furnishings are original.

I think every city in Japan has a visitors information center.
This is the Hakodate Tourist Information Center; it's inside the Hakodate JR Train Station. I'm not posting this picture because it's so photogenic, it's just a reminder for anyone visiting Japan, these information centers are an outstanding source of information. We always checkout the information center wherever we go in Japan. They can help you in ways that searching on google can't.

A real mish-mash of different tram styles (and ages, apparently) and colors/graphics. Are they all different tram lines, or just whichever ones work?

I don't think that any two streetcars look alike.
This website can probably answer all your questions about the tram lines and more!
Thank you for asking,

... likes film again.
Nice photos, brings memories back from my time living in Sapporo. Does the Harlequin restaurant still exist in Hakodate, it was located opposite side of the JR station if memory serves me right? The fish market is amazing, best sea food in Japan is in Hokkaido. I had a 海鮮丼 (Kaisendon, rice bowl topped with sashimi) there for breakfast.

Thank you, maddoc, and you're right, the best seafood is in Hokkaido. Sorry, I didn't notice the Harlequin restaurant.
All the best,
Mike

On this day we visited Onuma Quasi National Park. The park is 20 Kilometers north of Hakodate city. To get there we'll take a "One-Man" train.
One-Man trains are trains that go out to isolated locations where the train stations are unattended. The train operator collects your fare before you get off the train.
