Leica B&W Monopan 50 Film

I just ordered Adox HR-50 with speed booster from Cinestill.😎

Did you forget Leica put their name on an Instax camera? And an app?

Leica don't mean what it used to...

Well, I didn't say it was the only such prostitution.

Can't say that I blame Leica. You have to do what it takes to keep a business solvent. They created the M4-2 and M4-P after the market soundly rejected the M5 (even though I think the M5 was a far better machine). They had to do something to stay afloat. So I don't begrudge them their little film dalliance - I just won't be playing along unless someone makes a compelling case for this product ... which I doubt.

Supposedly, a new scanner, enlarger, photographic paper, developing & printing chemicals, and photo processing accessories are in the works.

And if you don’t have space or time for processing, they are opening 1-hour Leica-MAT photo-processing huts 🛖 throughout the world.

Kidding… 😉

By August 21st the Orange Buffoon's tariffs will have kicked in here in the States, so the price will probably be like $20 per roll.

Best,

Ignoring the political drool here, allow me to point out that tariffs and duties have always existed between the various trading partners around the world. What changed recently is a demand for parity among all the players (so it is claimed) OTHER than China which is the subject of some ... spankings. Duties/tariffs are common and have been paid for years around the world. Also, tariffs are not some single number. They vary by country of origin and type of good.

Try exporting from the US to the EU and find out how that works. You will quickly become familiar with the nature of international tariffs. For that matter, try sending a camera to Poland for repair and declaring its actual replacement value. You will be happily visited by draconian Polish duties. I know this because I had to be educated on just how to declare repair items properly (and legally, I might add) so they would not be seen by Polish Customs as an import good.

To pretend that the current US administration somehow invented something new out of whole cloth is to demonstrate an absence of experience with international trade.

(I am neither defending nor criticizing the current US administration, merely pointing out how things actually work. Such political rants are better held in places like Reddit, Bluesky, X, and Facebook/Meta where the certainty of the position and intensity of the rhetoric are inversely proportional to the knowledge of the poster...)

P.S. I just bought a brick of film from China and paid $0 duty or tariff of any kind. The only difference I noticed was that shipping cost more because the US is no longer underwriting reduced shipping costs from China to the US, but that was pretty minor.

Usually, the respectable brand's film information is visible on the film's edge after developing.

If it will show Leica ISO 50, this is going to be sweet scam 🙂

The Youtube video e.g. at 11:14 clearly shows LEICA MONOPAN 50 on the film edge rebate even using Leica's in house font Leica’s engraved fonts
