Round trip around the Baltic Sea

We continue our journey to Sweden. The Öresund Bridge connects Sweden and Denmark across the Öresund Strait, stretching nearly 5 miles (about 8 kilometers). We passed the Öresund Bridge already on our previous way to Bornholm, as the island is much closer located to Sweden than to Danmark.

We say goodbye to the Baltic Sea coast and head inland of southern Sweden, where we spend a few days by a lake.

Our next stop takes us to Gränsö, a peninsula located near Västervik on Sweden's esat coast.

The Åland Islands are situated between Sweden and Finland. While officially belonging to Finland, they are an autonomous region, governing themselves in many local matters. The landscape is characterized by nearly 300 habitable islands and thousands of small islands and rocky islets scattered across the Baltic Sea.

Apart from the wonderful landscape, we also visited the charming camera museum (Ålands fotografiska museum) located in an old school. I was really astonished by the large collection of cameras and photographic equipment. We got a personal tour with Olle Strömberg, who is running the museum together with his wife. The museum is an absolute gem and a must-go place for any camera nerd.

Our next destination is Finland. We arrive in Turku, a city in southwestern Finland and one of the country's oldest cities. It is a bit like coming home as I once spent there a study semester abroad.

We continue to journey to Nummi Pusula in southern Finland, where we spent a few days at a "Saunamökki" (sauna cottage) next to a lake.

I really enjoyed watching these.

Last summer I went to the Baltic sea (Miedzyzdroje) for the first time in my life and I regret that I spent only a couple of days and not taking more pictures. I am definitely planning to go again.

Keep these pictures coming.

After departing from Helsinki, we arrive in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia located on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea. We stay there for a day and enjoy the beautiful medieval old town before moving on to Muriste in the southwest of Estonia.

We continue our journey to Latvia, the middle one of the three Baltic countries. We stay in Jurmala, a popular resort town just west of the Riga, the capital of Latvia. It quite rainy despite summer time, but we enjoy the seaside and the trip to Riga, which offers a fantastic Art Nouveau architecture.

Love this shot, maybe becuase it feels familiar, feels warm, or maybe I know you were happy that at this time you have color film loaded.

I once went for a day trip to Lithuania, late autumn, beautiful sunny weather. I loaded some Ektar at home. Had a blast with yellow trees, yellow houses, blue skies... Too bad it was not Ektar but a respooled Fomapan 100 that was unlabeled somehow. Goodbye yellow trees and blue skies. Now for most of the trips I have second camera, usually P&S, with color (slide) and main camera for B&W. Or the other way round, but that's rare.

Thanks for sharing. The pictures you made are wonderful and bring some memories back. Some wonderful memories. Thank you so much, pacco.

Thank you for a most enjoyable tour, Pacco. Really appreciate your sharing your trip with us.

Thanks, Jan! It is a good idea to have some color film with you, even for those who prefer black and white film photography. I like the Velvia shots that you recently shared in another thread. I am usually focussed on black and white photography for a couple of reasons, but for this summertime/ seaside trip I definitely had to take color films with me - despite the increased costs associated with color film nowadays...

Our Baltic Sea round trip comes to an end as we arrive in Poland, the last and final country before our return back to Germany. We stay a few days near Krutyń in the Masurian Lake District, before moving on to Gdansk, a historic port city on the Baltic coast of northern Poland. After Gdansk, we visit the beautiful Czołpińska Dune located in the Słowiński National Park.

Apparently I had a few expired b/w films with me that produced quite interesting effects - I somehow like it.
