Out of curiosity, have there been any photography related gear that never caused GAS to you? I can think quite a few but the most obvious one for me are flash guns.

I had an Agfa flash gun and when that failed in a spectacular way, I bought a vivitar one to suite my Praktica camera.

I used to bypass all magazine articles about flashgun reviews and still do. I very rarely use them anyway.

What about you? Are there any photo-gear that failed to capture your imagination.

Same here — flash is something I hardly ever use, although I may use it a bit more in the future for specific projects, but in general it’s not something I need. Same thing with motor drives. It’s cool when they’re built into the camera for convenience (like the Contax G1 or Nikon F4) but I don’t often need that amount of speed. On the rare occasion when I do need to snap several photos quickly of a moving subject, I’ve actually managed 2-3 frames per second with the standard thumb advance on my 35mm cameras.

I must be a gas-aholic, I used to love flash guns (the kind off the camera with a handle) and motor drives (allowed me to keep my eye to the viewfinder).

Can't really think of any camera equipment I've not craved at one time or another.

Digital. 😆 My first "serious" camera was a Sony NEX-5T, which was a great tool for learning as a beginner. After that, I fell in love with film photography and never really looked back. I tried a few enthusiast compacts like the small sensor CCD Ricoh GRD-IV, but none caused GAS so I sold them. I never upgraded the Sony NEX-5T, but still use it to digitize my negatives.

Expensive large aperture lenses.... I had both the 50 f1 Noctilux and the 75mm 1.4 Summilux (in the 90s when they cost about 1k cdn/ 625 € @) While i have a few stellar images which of course exhibit the character of these lenses...they soon got sold. The summicrons & elmars have always been my workhorse lenses.
