Photography Gear that never caused you GAS

I do have one … it’s a Kodak Instamatic 500, made by Nagel with a collapsible Schneider Xenar in a Compur shutter. It’s kind of cool. But I only have it because it was $15.

Hmmm, part of me thinks that everyone should have at least one Kodak camera, just like part of me thinks everyone in the UK should have a Raleigh bicycle, even if they have cameras or bikes by other makers.

Video is something I’ve never had an interest in. Some digital cameras I own can do video, but have never used it.

Must confess that time lapse has been something of an interest but didn’t do any.

Out of curiosity, have there been any photography related gear that never caused GAS to you? ... Are there any photo-gear that failed to capture your imagination.

I can think of two categories:
1. $6,000+ Leica film cameras; and
2. $10,000+ Leica lenses!

Oh, these give me gas, but a totally different kind.

After years of owning so much photo gear, I’ve realized I’m really just a temporary caretaker. I’ve let go of a lot of cameras and lenses—my Mamiya 6/7 went to Australia, the Angénieux collection to Hong Kong, the Leica and Zeiss pieces to Japan and a few other places. Even after all that, I still have plenty of gear left, which I rotate through from time to time. No more GAS—the pressure finally vented.

Very nice repaint! I really appreciate half-frame cameras for the engineering and optical marvels that they are (hence my passing interest in the Pen F). Just one problem: they're half-frame! There's just not the resolution I need; even full frame is a barely acceptable compromise. Most half-frame shooters use them for their compactness and portability, and I certainly appreciate those qualities, so for me, "half-frame" means that I put away my 6x9 and shoot 6x4.5. 😉

The famous phrase, "judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” Leica M4/KE7a share the same content.
The de-chromed Leica M4 ready to move next step - remove nickel plating. From anatomy point of review black paint chrome plated Leica are the same other than their outside coating.

I never used or wanted autofocus or zoom lenses until I got a DSLR with both.

Autofocus: I just use the central focus sensor and lock focus.

Zoom: With the zoom, I tend to choose my focal length and then look into the finder.
Zooming to find composition doesn't work for me.
I do like not having to change lenses.

In fairness, I think any of the Stuttgart-made Kodaks don't really count -- they are decidedly a cut above. I have a few "real" Kodaks, the best being the Signet 35. Signet 80 and Kodak 35, not so great at all.

Anything Minolta. No idea why. Family and friends used them, but I always thought that other gear by other manufacturers at their price point was better.

I went through different phases with minolta; from adoring them and collecting them to not caring about them and selling them off to gather them back again...
