W/NW Reading

Peter, I very much like the tonality & colors in this image. What did you use to create it? Thanks.
Thanks Jamie.
This one is toned using Nik Analog Efex (one of the wider Nik Efex Suite of tools). This specific software (Analog Efex) tends to need very careful use as its default settings are all for too strong, even over the top, in my opinion. In this one I did have to pull back the specific adjustments accordingly but are still quite strong. Never the less I like it too and are glad you do. 🙂 (BTW I never use their presets for this reason - I "cook" my own specifically for each image depending on its needs.)

My Nik Efex Suite is the old one that was listed as freeware in 2016 by the then owner Google, who abandoned development of this suite of software (which included Analog Efex and several others). The rights to the software were later acquired by DxO labs who then continued with development.

My version is thus somewhat dated, and I believe newer versions have quite a few additional features (see link below). I am still happy with what I have got so have not seriously looked into the current version. It may be that the old suite is still available on the 'net somewhere but I understand that it is no longer at the site which once hosted it. I probably use Analog Efex the least of those in this Nik suite of plugins specifically because I found it to be more difficult to work with. But I have to say that when it does work as with this shot, it can produce some very interesting images. I like the slight greenish tinge to the lighting in this photo which is a little akin to old fashioned mercury vapour lamps that were used for streetlights and outdoor lighting generally. This form of lighting is probably well outdated now, so it does give a bit of a nostalgic feel, I think.

This link to the current version of this software looks quite interesting I must admit and its interface is very much different to that of my version.
