Now here is something silly I can't figure out.
I bought an M10-R and recall setting the display to monochrome in order to better see the focus peaking in red.
Now for the life or me I can't find the setting to turn the display back to color....
Ideally I would like to have the focussing screen in monochrome with red focus confirmation and color review....

The only way I can find to make the LCD display (or EVF) image in monochrome is to enable any File Format mode that includes JPEG, and then go to JPEG Settings and enable the Monochrome setting. In either DNG+JPG or JPG mode, the image on the LCD will be monochrome when taking.

When you enter Playback mode, the camera will always show either the JPEG preview out of a DNG only mode capture, or the JPEG out of either a JPEG only or DNG+JPG capture, whether the JPEG Monochrome is enabled or not. If you've taken several photos in DNG only, those will always be reviewed based on the color JPEG preview in the DNG file; there is no monochrome mode when you're making DNG only format image files. There is no setting to tell the camera that in playback display mode to only show either monochrome or color ... it just always shows whatever JPEG or JPEG preview is part of a given exposure.

I hope that's clear.

I always have all my cameras set to capture to raw (DNG) only files so I didn't realize this monochrome display option even existed since you cannot make "monochrome DNG" files. Monochrome is a JPEG only setting. 🙂

  1. Open the Menu: Press the menu button on the back of the camera.
  2. Navigate to Image Settings: Find the menu option for JPG Settings or Film Style (sometimes labeled as "Monochrome" or "Color" within the menu system).
  3. Select a Color Profile: Change the setting from "Monochrome" to any color option, such as Standard, Vivid, or Natural.
  4. Confirm: Press the center button to apply the setting.
If you want a monochrome screen and keep the raw files in color: Keep the JPEG setting to "Monochrome" and the raw format as DNG.

I thank both of you!!!

Since only shoot in DNG I never looked under the JPEG settings. Only there is the setting to the monochrome off/on.
To me it would make much more sense to put this option under Menu > Main Menu > EVF/Display Control....

Now I know 🙂

Thanks!

Hah! I didn't actually check setting the JPEG Settings to Monochrome and leaving the camera in DNG only mode ... it didn't occur to me that this made any sense since the Monochrome setting (according to the manual) is only active on the JPEG output. Thank you! 🙂

You're welcome. And thank you! because without your query I would never have imagined that the M10-R could be set up to image the LCD/EVF as a Monochrom camera. (I have an M10 Monochrome for that, and I never use the JPEG setting in any of my cameras ... didn't read those sections of the manual!)

Fun fun fun. 😀
