Hello guys! Recently gifted myself an M5 for my birthday and had a question about the viewfinder and the light meter.

On the right section of the light meter there's a bit of an open space and I haven't been able to find out what the section means in terms of light reading.
Anyone has any idea what it means? Would appreciate it! (Photo from Casual Photophile)

If you're talking about the little cut-out/groove, it's the battery check "indicator."

If you move the frame line selector lever either all the way to the right or left (I can't remember off-hand which direction, but it will be evident when holding the camera and looking through the finder) the meter needle will rest in that groove indicating battery voltage. Newer batteries usually show a little more voltage than older ones, but if the needle doesn't move at all, you have a dead battery.

Yeah that's the one! Great! Thanks for confirming!
